So has anyone hunted sparrows or starlings on public hunting land ? Or would you think it’s legal ? Technically isn’t a season for them was a thought that ran through my head today

I would recommend having a valid hunting license. And make sure it is legal to hunt the area you are targeting.
From my observations in my area. The starlings and English sparrows hang out in very populated areas. Like shopping centers and strip malls.
I never get English sparrows in my yard. And starling only land way up high in a few trees. But I can drive a block away to the nearest strip mall and they well be all over the place.

In Mi you can hunt them year long on state land as long as you have a valid small game license. But like mentioned, they don’t hang out on state land. Make sure you are shooting sparrows and not look a like song birds.

While you are looking you might want to check and make sure its ok to bait them... Chicken scratch is cheap and a 50 lb bag is about 10 bucks and goes a long way.

Absolutely! I don't bother with English Sparrow, too many birds look alike. Not worth it. Starling are easy to identify and no one likes them.

Thanks for the info guys I checked with the DNR it is legal to hunt them year long On public hunting land
