Hunting pellets?

I have killed 21 ground squirrels in the last month while attending high school(I am only 15).I use a crosman phantom 177. with iron sights. No I am not that good at shooting but I am good at stalking so I took all of them from within 15y. I wounded none that weren't given a follow up shot. 90% of them were hit in the head or the lungs. I took ones ranging from 6in to over a foot. But I found a problem the pellets were not expanding at all. So if I had been to much further away I don't think their would be enough energy transfer for a humane kill. That being said I dropped a rabbit in one shot from 40 yards away. I know not very responsible but in only took one shot and dropped.

I use the crosman field points but they don't expand upon impact they just drill a 177. sized hole through my squirrels. I tried the crosman hollow points but i lost to much accuracy. Any tips on a accurate pellet that will put the energy into the animal not the ground behind it. Thanks

Since springers are usually only traveling around 700 fps that's not fast enough for noticeable expansion. You can get hollow point or wad cutter pellets that will dump the energy into whatever your shooting faster but again you probably won't notice much expansion. That's why with airguns shot placement is very important. So what I would do is stick with the most accurate pellet. Just remember you want accuracy over damage.
By the way good shootin. ;)

I've had good luck with H&N Terminator 7.25gr Hollowpoints out to as far as 30 yards. In my Crosman NP, they are my fastest, most powerful, AND most accurate pellet (again, at close range...30 yards or less). The ones I bothered to extract post-mortem had expanded quite a bit. My gun is throwing these pellets at very close to 1000 FPS, according to my Chrony. If your gun shoots significantly slower than this, your results will probably be different (could be better, probably will be worse).

"LDM"I want to know what you do with your gun when you get to school??/ I have a friend - who is 76 - that hunted ducks on the way to and from school and was able to put his 12 gage in his school locker. Don't think you can do that anymore:)

Good shooting btw!
I don't think ninja hunted on the way to school, he hunted during the time he attended school, I.E. while going to school he may have had a parting job too.

I sometime take the Gamo Whisper out and use a 177cal JSB Exact Beast Diablo at 16.20gr. This is a very heavy pellet for a springer in 177 but the results thus far have been knock down serious on small game. I have heard that this heavy of a pellet in a springer could cause damage to the spring but have not noted any with the Gamo thus far. I use these in my 177 Marauder as well to slow it down a little and have found them to be very consistent.
Unless someone can tell use if this is too heavy of a pellet for a springer then I would try them. I have taken Starlings and Squirrels with the Gamo and these 16.20gr pellets at 35 yards with quick kills. I will run them through the chronograph and see what speed they are achieving so we can put together some energy numbers.
These pellets with the Gamo Whisper are very accurate and consistent. Any misses or flyers are all me when it comes to the springer. You just got to practice to be good with any springer and let the rifle rock and roll throughout the recoil.
