The first day we shot at this horse farm we did not have much luck. The horses weren’t put away and the ground squirrels stayed inside. The second day was this morning and we didn’t get out of the car. Shot from window sills. I noticed very different behavior from the squirrels. When we’d take a squirrel from the vehicle, the others would not move. Or they’d go over to check out the dead one. We were able to create a pile of dead squirrels that way. My feeling is that they are used to vehicles not being a threat and therefore don’t scatter as opposed to seeing a man nearby and possibly associating to downed squirrel to him and take off. Because of this I am thinking of getting a hunting blind to set up behind. Anyone else use one? What are your thoughts?

Shooting from the car is a great tactic.......I do this most of the time. If I am forced to be at 75 yds or longer, I just get out and use the rifle off a bipod on the roof of the car......super stable that way. I tried a blind once.....unless you're in a hot spot, I think it's a waste of time.

If you can be static and get a couple of hours of shooting done, then I may consider a blind. My permission is along 2+ miles of canal bank, so mobility works to my advantage.
I do suggest that you use a Squirrel call. But, you need to be ready for the response. It can be overwhelming!
For a quick fix, a poncho or a tarp draped over your shoulders can be used to disguise your outline.

Never used one for squirrels, but I do use them for white tail deer in upstate NY . I have one permanent one I built out of wood, and just ordered one from Cabelas Saturday. Should be here tomorrow.

Bob_O you should create a one sided blind that looks like a small car. That way you could walk and shoot. lol

Well I was asking because yes, I find a place and usually shoot it out, then move to another place. I’m thinking of a light tent type or one that’s a short wall type. I think it just masks my movement and so they are not spooked. Right now I’m perched at the end of a long fence. The other side I was yesterday and their holes are on this side and we could not shoot through the fence. So today no car, out in the open.

I have been using a pair of 5 panel Zinger blinds for several years now .... Very handy, lightweight and easy to carry.
Having great success as a bit of cover when pesting starlings .. And I also use these blinds for duck hunting and Nature photography!

maybe I should apply for a handicapped

Same here in Canada .. Absolutely not permitted, so a blind is a much better plan...

You may not shoot a firearm out of a car or near or across a road. But it’s perfectly legal to shoot out of a car with a pellet gun provided that you don’t violate any of the other ordinances. If the road is not a private one, you could be charged with public display of a replica firearm. But where we shoot is private land with their own roads for working the farm so yes, it’s legal even here in California.

I'm afraid the only experience i have with them was seeing the add a while back, and this thread jogged my memory of it. As blinds go, that one makes alot of sense to me, since it reflects the environment at that downward angle it blends exactly with your surroundings, thought that was a brilliant solution for camouflage.
