I recently installed a Huma regulator in my Taipan Veteran Long .22 because the OEM reg would occasionally give large extreme spreads (~30 fps). I set the Huma reg to 115 bar and installed it. Gun appears to work fine, holds air like before, etc. With the HST ~maxed, the gun will push 18.1 JSBs 950 fps or so, but I tuned the HST for optimal accuracy @ 880 fps.
When I started shooting with the Huma I noticed that after the gun sat for a while (overnight), my first few shots were significantly slower (30-40fps) than what I tuned it to shoot. After doing some research it sounds like most new regulators "creep" in pressure, and the higher working pressure makes it so the hammer cannot fully open the valve leading to slower initial velocities. But this regulator creep is supposed to dissipate after a break in period.
I have ~300 shots through the gun since installing the Huma and am still seeing this behavior. This was my cold bore shot string from today:
852, 861, 866, 863, 867, 870, 865, 875, 879, 880, 878
Do you think the reg is still "breaking in"?
Could this be caused by my HST being too light for the reg setting?
When should I start to worry that I received a faulty Huma (making me 0/2 on regulators for this gun )?
I would prefer not to have to dump 10 shots every time I see a starling...
