Huma for FX Impact initial impressions

perkyval did the new reg improve the group size at all? that was the main reason you opted for the upgrade if I read you correctly.

What do you think, will you succeed with a warranty claim now?

Actually, while I wasn't yet pleased with the spread and sd, the main reason I moved to the Huma was reg creep after the gun sat over night.

I can say unequivocally that the creep issue is gone. The squirrel I shot 5 minutes ago could attest to that if he wasn't taking a nap.

I haven't been out to the range yet, so the testing has been in my back yard 25 yard range, and groups at that distance are the same. However, I really dont expect the group size to change much yet. Maybe at 100yards, but I won't know til Friday at the earliest.

I like to know how long the Huma regulator takes to return to the set pressure after fire. My stock Impact regulator take about 30 secs after each shot when set at 140 bars. I’m also using a WiKi gauge on the regulated side.

30 seconds???

Something isnt right at all. My stock Impact was ready almost immediately, as is my Crown. I cant tell you at this time about the Huma as I haven't done any speed silo sort of things yet, and since I'm tuning it still, im cycling very slowly.

If I were you I'd call FX USA and ask them about that. I'm wondering if you dont have a bit of crud clogging up the works.

About a year ago, I used a digital gauge to measure the recovery time of my stock Impact reg. I wish I had tried to capture a 5 and 10 second pressure, so one day I might repeat this test. It takes a surprisingly long time to get to the final pressure, but the last couple bar might not be all that significant.

I wouldn't have guessed that at all.

Good info!

I couldn't resist, so I ordered the extra high pressure version of the regulator. They advertise that recovery time is faster, so that will be interesting to see. When I'm ready to swap regulators, I'll set up the digital gauge again, and video the gauge reading as I fire a shot. That will make pressure measurement for any particular time possible. After I swap them, I'll set the new reg to 150 bar also, and do the same test.

Thanks,

Rusty

I was at 143 bar up until about a week ago, and accuracy was good for .22 and .30, though my rifle has always been a bit low on velocity. I haven't measured shot count in a long time, since I always have a bottle handy, and typically refill at 200 bar anyway. I only went to 150 when I started trying to shoot slugs, and I'm not getting the velocity I would like to have, so I want the option to use higher pressure if needed.

I think we may get bogged down in minutiae. Below is a test I did with the Huma prototype over 45 minutes. The initial pressure was set to 125 bar. I set it outside on my shooting table in the sun and came back about 10 minutes later. You can see that the pressure increased due to the heat. I then did one shot and took a reading every minute for 45 minutes. The SD for the entire test was 0.6, and the rifle shot fine. I checked it the next morning in the house and pressure was back to 125.
