I shoot my Walnut-stocked K1 .25 pretty regularly. Not lots of shots in a single setting, maybe just a mag or two. Today I decided to do some target practice on walnuts in the trees. Walnuts have been my real-world favorite warm-up squirrel target for years.
I shot about 35/44 walnuts with a "leaning" post rest using my Imersive 10x40 scope (which I also love). I missed a couple because the wind was moving the walnuts (20-40 yard shots) about 3/4 of a walnut from side to side so I had to time shots. When I was steady and the win cooperated it was too easy. I started with a partial mag (.25) of about 10 and finished with two full mags. I still had air. I fill to 4500 with my GX C-3I compressor.
Since I am running short of my AEA 33 grain pellets I went out just now to see what the Hades 25 grains would do. Results:
-- 3 shots 34 grain AEA - 955 FPS - Exactly as it came from me from Krazy Cool about 3 months ago! Dead on at within 1/2" of each other 25, 35, and 45 yards.
-- 3 shots of 25 grain Hades - 1017 FPS - No POI change needed.
I didn't change the power wheel at all.
I know I should also shoot the rifle further say 50-75 yards, but frankly even after hunting with rimfire powder burners (.22LR) for 59 years, I rarely take a shot past 40 yards, especially before leaf fall.
I suppose some will say my power setting is a little hot (from what I've read), but I sure have zero complaints at the Krazy Cool settings.
I just told my wife, I have never been so tickled with an air rifle before and I've owned many different PCPs. She said, "That's nice dear, I'm glad you're happy." Yep, subtract your age from 100 and that's how the wife addresses you. I feel like Benjamin Button sometimes.
Tomorrow is opening day of archery deer season here in KY. I have a nice natural ambush point on the ground about 3 steps into the woods on an opening edge. A place I've hunted many times in the past. I am seriously thinking about taking the K1 along with my recurve. I'll lean the rifle against a tree or hang on a stub while I deer hunt. When the inevitable squirrel shows up, I will change gears. I have yet to take a shot at a squirrel with the K1. I know I should get the GK1 V3 pretty soon for even more portability while bow hunting, but I'm not ready to drop another $1,700+ at the moment. I'd put a red or green dot on it to aid my 71 year old eyes.
Sorry about all the words, but I'm so pleased with this rifle.
