Four of us managed to get together this morning for a winter squirrel hunt. All of us were using .22 Huben K1's and shooting 25 gr JSB. It started out slow as we got there too early at around 8:45. I managed to shoot the first one at 45 yards around 9:30 and didn't see any more until after 10:30. Then all hell broke loose, at least where I was at. They were running all around me and I shot four more in about a half hour. I had my limit of five so I headed back towards the truck to meet up and see how they did.The other guys weren't having much luck. John L shot a fox squirrel and John D. and Jim L didnt shoot any but did see some. And they saw a couple coyotes and several deer. John L said he didnt have chance on the coyote as it surprised him at 15 yards while he was watching a squirrel but high tailed it out of there fast as soon as he tried to get in position for a shot.
Shots were tough as the squirrel were mostly on the ground moving and it was pretty thick The shots ranged from 20 to 45 yards.
I'm really loving this Huben, as are the other guys. It just makes a nice compact, powerful, accurate hunting rifle with fast follow up shots. Which I needed on a couple squirrels as I did miss two but got them on my second shot. Both of them were very close and I think I shot under them.
All in all a great day hunting with good friends and air rifles.
