Huben Huben gk1 degassing advise

Need to get to the regulator again, I’m up to 195 bar on the regulator dial and the gauge is reading 170, gonna take it all the way up and see what happens, need to go to 200 bar and hopefully still get about one mag at 30fpe and Then move on to testing different 25 grain slugs for accuracy, just ordered some 28.5 peanut slogs in .218 I think I will get some good results out of those

Make sure you aren't exceeding the regulator specifications. Also, don't know if I trust the tiny gauges. Actual pressure probably not a real concern for you unless you want someone to copy your setup. Just increase as you need but don't flatten the belville washers past their max. Remember, as input pressure drops the output will adjust as well. Direction of output adjustment depends on the regulator type, likely will follow input pressure. Larger rifle size regs have smaller percentage output adjustment when input changes.

I’m not sure I get all you’re saying, I have a huma regulator that has a range from 100 to 200 bars, at 150 it read the same as the gauge, at the higher setting it started falling behind! The tank pressure is at 300 bars and I know the reg trails by about 30 bars when the main tank gets closer to the reg dialed pressure, but at 190 now and 300 bar main reservoir, the same gauge is reading 175 bars, so I’m wondering if it’s maxing out at that pressure, I tried the 28grain slugs and got about 30fpe of energy but with signs of starving for more air, the gun sounds inefficient with 1 and 1/4 turn on the power ant putting out about 690 fps, with the 25 grain slugs at the same setting I get 750 fps which is the same power but with 1/8 turn lower on the dwell and much better sounding smoother mechanical noise. I think the 175 bar reg pressure is limiting the power output and the slug weight that can be used, the same tune is a lot more efficient on 18 and 20 grainers so I know that I just need more punch in terms of plenum pressure to compensate for the limited supply due to the tiny volume of air available… just looking for that sweet spot for the sake of learning and having fun with it… shot count doesn’t matter you can refill faster than u can reload, it not an issue, I’m after efficiency and smooth functioning at different pressure levels, I got very nice smooth shooting with the 18 grain pellets at 155 bar and 22 fpe, same for the 14 grain pellets shooting very well at 150 bar reg and about 900fps, so now the mission is to see how high I can go with smooth function and over 30fpe… I think I need 200 bars to do that, dwell on its own won’t cut it just not enough volume, unlike the bigger rifles with larger volume plenum the gk1 is tiny and limited in that department.

It looks like you are reaching the limit of what the reg can put out. Take a couple of shots and see if the regulated pressure gauge reading changes. The closer your set pressure to the input preasure the slower the reg will work. As you approach 200 you dont know if you are getting there and the gauge is lying or the reg cant get there. The small plenum is preventing reaching higher power regardless of plenum pressure. ie. a 1/2cc plenum at 300 bar may not give you 30 ft/lbs. Whereas unregulated where the whole volume acts as the plenum you can get 30ftlbs down to 150 bar or lower.

Exactly right, I refill at 230 bar in order to avoid the regulator issue, but the 1/2cc as you mention is the culprit, it’s all about volume, I will see how far I can go with consistency and maybe dial back to 25 ft-lbs just to learn and maybe eventually just go back to unregulated for the power. It’s all fun to do, I chose to get a GK1 just for that reason, thanks for sharing your knowledge Sergeiy, you really know your stuff 👍🙏

Sam, I think you will find that there is no advantage in accuracy with a regulator in a pistol at pistol distances. If you find there is, please get back to the forum and tell us. I consistently shoot 1" or better groups with my GK1s at 25 meters, 40FPE for a whole magazine. All a regulator does is consume air tube volume limiting consistent shot count. Your call.
Happy to report a few findings 😎, at 175 bar reg setting and 1 1/8 turn power hot a nice sweet spot for the 25.4 grain Edgun pellets, got a few groups of 5 shots in less than 1/8 inch at 10 yards going at 730 fps and generating 30 ft-lbs of energy the velocity spread was with a few fps. I thing the regulators was responsible for that, on the other hand the shot count was low about 7 bars for every shot.
this utter disaster was with the slugs, tried NSA, H&N and Astro and Edgun slugs all between 28 grain and 25 ranging from 650 to 730 fps, complete disaster, the target wholes were all oval as in the slugs flying sideways and poi was about 3 inches lower than the pellets and oh the group size was like 2” at best… not really sure if slugs require a much higher velocity to stabilize or my gk1 doesn’t like slugs, no issues with moderator clipping or anything close to that. I’m thinking it must be the velocity but with a regulator I think I’ve reached the limit of how much power the gun will deliver.

Sam,
I think you are fooling yourself. I use no regulator and starting at 300 bar I shoot 17 25.4gr pellets (one magazine) all within a 1" group at 25 meters at almost the same speed as you experiencing much less velocity loss as you and I still have 210 bar in the tank. The reason is simple, the regulator takes volume away from an already small tank without adding more accuracy at distances less than 50 meters.
