The gun club I am visiting, the setup is not really airgun friendly
Usually I am shooting at two 100 meter ranges, the first picture tenants are mostly the centerfire folks, the second picture is a 22LR silhouettes range.
As we can see, I am coming down from a higher level, this structure is closed except the front and right side. The problem with it - is a tail wind. The air runs over the roof and dumps all the swirling in the middle, I cannot read it from my flags. Not much better with a face wind, as we can see behind the targets panel a high ground again.
The 22LR 100 meter range again same situation with front and tail wind plus this safe barier in front about 10-15 yard above the head makes a real whirlpool in front of me, also the treeline from both sides...
I started only recently placing out my wind pointers, but pretty much useless, because I have a lot of up-down wind pressure.
This arrow shows the wind is coming - somewhere from right, but it is actually running from behind and jumping from above my head to the ground filling this "crater". And because I am sitting inside a partially closed structure, I feel the air moves but I cannot pinpoint from where. As we can see the grass didn't started growing yet, no leafs on branches.
The 50 meters range is similar, but the 200-300 meters range is a real mind challenging setup, much narrower and several overhead safety barriers. Here at least no need to worry about side-wind.
I never had any contact with some sort of "up-down wind indicator" but I feel that I would have a good use for one. I can DIY but I would like to see some pictures.
