The fitting is a bit too long. I wanted to shorten it by 1/2 in. Is it possible? I need the cone shape to move back 1/2 in and I can cut the tip off. But the cone shape would not move at all when I putting a wrench over it and hit it with a hammer. I thought it would just slide back but it wouldn't. Is there a Grove inside there holding it or what. I dont want to pound it too hard and damage it and won't seal when I put it back. Is there a way to move the cone shape back so I can shorten it?

looks like thats a made-up crimped line .. unless you have access to the tools and supplies to do it its not adjustable 'i dont think' .. if you can find a compression connector the right diameter its possible you could cut it in the middle shorten and splice it, but thats kindof cheezy ... id live with it, bend it around a bit if its hanging out or something but do it with the connections tight and gently, i wouldnt get too mean with it, you dont want to kink it..

I wouldn't recommend bending by hand , good chance you'll kink it . Why is it a half inch too long?

That "cone shape" is ferrule. It's part of the compression fitting (nut & ferrule together). Ferrule IS NOT MEANT to be moved & used again! This is a safety issue! Please don't do it. Just order new ferrule for that size tubing & pressure load. Google it. I think Augie (Bigragu) found a place to order, a while back. Check w him. Should be inexpensive.

The ferrule is slid over the line and then pushed into the fitting. Then the nut is tightened and squishes the ferrule down on the tube to make the metal to metal seal. Like said above it is not made to be moved once installed. You are not going to get your half inch there.
You can however cut the ferrel off by cutting the line and install a new ferrule to shorten the line.

Cheap tubing bender at Harbor Freight. Don't try bending without it. That hard tubing will kink. You still haven't explained WHY it's .5" too long.
