How to remove a Huma regulator from the air tube?

I'm tinkering with my Hatsan FlashPup. Today I install a Huma regulator for it. That went without incident really and its not leaking. However, I find I need to remove the regulator to change the setting on it. I find all kinds of information about how to install a Huma regulator but no information about how to remove it. So - how do you remove a Huma regulator from the air tube?

I've used the bottle technique to remove & adjust the regulator in my EDgun Leshiy many times. If you go that route I'd suggest leaving your bleed valve open, carefully applying a little air, and then slowly close the bleed valve (it won't take much). *Don't forget to hold something on the end of the air tube to keep the regulator from flying out 😉

Thanks for the ideas - I got it figured out. The first time was a bear but after that not so much. The fit of the Huma S regulator in the steel air tube of the Hatsan FlashPup Synthetic is very tight indeed (wood FlashPups have an aluminun tube I think). I ended up removing the input cap and just pushing the Huma all the way through. There wasn't any way I could see to push it out the exhaust end once it was in there. Air pressure would get it close but not out. Apparently, there is a "choke" in the exhaust end just a bit. But - I've had it out twice now and once you get the input end cap off the first time and clean the paint or whatever it is out of the threads its a hand-tight situation. Piece of cake on the third removal.

Good morning

Pardon my inability to fully grasp using compressed air to remove the regulator

What I am visualizing is removing the air tube and then using compressed air via the input nipple to push the regulator out.

Is that correct?

Thanks, Scouty

Fully appreciated!

Understanding accomplished!!

Now to find away to remove/extract a Huma without taking off the air tube.

Guns I'm putting a Huma in are Maximus & Prod

IMO it's a PITA to remove their tubes as considerable disassembly is required

I put a few marks on the top of the adjuster with a sharpie marker on the first install. Now I can reach down with a 2' long screwdriver and adjust without removing it from the tube.

Great idea, Eddie_E.

Thanks

I take then that the regulator body does not turn in the tube when adjusting the regulator.

Is that correct?

Also

After adjustment can you see deep enough into the tube to check your work?

Using a flashlight of course.

I need to jump in and give you guys one tip, if the regulator doesn't come out quickly with the air method (like Michael's video) STOP, bleed the air off, take the fill probe assembly and use something to push it out manually. Sometimes o-rings get stuck or some other reason the regulator may be in the tube tight. One main culprit of a regulator being super stuck is directly related to poor quality air with slightly alkaline water being introduced. This can cause the regulator to be seriously stuck. I know of one person who kept interjecting more air into his tube in an attempt to push the regulator out. He was not seriously hurt but the Huma flew through his drywall, the air tube smacked his jaw and he had a good bit of ringing in his ear. Please be cautious

Good advice indeed, Brian (EdgunWest)

Caution rules the day with HPA

Your advice will certainly help others to avoid injury

However in my application (Disco/Maximus & P-Rod) I have no intention of using air to remove the HUMA for adjustment.

Taking off the tube on these guns requires a tear down (Barrel, receiver) as far as I can tell.

That's way too bothersome in order to accomplish adjusting the regulator while tuning

I'm looking for away to fish out the regulator from the front of the gun with tube attached.

I also like Eddie_E's idea of the long screwdriver down into the tube to make the adjustments

Additional solutions/suggestions are most welcome
