How to degas an Air Arms (CZ) 200-- need advice

Just acquired a Huma external type regulator as well as a replacement gage with quick-fill and I'm anxious to install them in the cylinder.

Do I absolutely need a degassing tool or is there a safe alternative method to release the pressure from the cylinder?

It currently has about 90 bar on it.

Perhaps I could just repeatedly cock and fire until it's exhausted all the air but I didn't bring the rifle with me to work (where I have access to a bench vise).

I thought about using a flat tipped punch but I'm concerned about damaging the firing valve.

I've read that some folks do this by loosening the gage but will that much pressure prevent breaking it loose?

Thanks for your advice!

Matt
