this summer I shot about 40 red squirrels with my crosman 1322. There are still a lot of them left, but they are smart. They usually run into their hole in their tree or in the ground. They have been very anoying and they raided the bird feeder but I think I shot to many on it and they are they don't go there anymore then they have been by my turkey coop eating feed when there was snow but it rained and melted. And I think they eat stuff out in the woods. I try walking around and the pine trees are so brushy you can't see once they go up in a tree. I shot them earlier by walking around but they were dumb then and just sat in the tree. I set up a pop up blind with corn by it but all I see are birds and rabbits eat it after dark there were a few squirrel tracks in the snow but I just need to have something that attracts them better. The other day a red squirrel climbed up my trees tang with an apple in its mouth. Maybe I will try apples. My pop up blind is about 10 or 15 yards away but I can kill the little red squirrels at 30 or 40 yards but if yall got any tips or kinds of bait tell me but I gotta git rid of these guys. Thanks

Peanut butter! Put it in the same spots, a couple different ones, within range of a hiding spot and you gun. Pick them off as they come. Keep baiting even if you aren't hunting that day though. 
The peanut butter makes them stay and lick it not go away with it. By all means put some peanuts near it too!

I will try that now that I am on Christmas break I can sit there as long as I want. I will see if I can find some peenut butter and peanuts and put it out. Thanks!

FWIW, I've found that Safflower seed is the equivalent of crack to Chipmunks. They will step over multiple dead relatives to get to the feed pile.

Sat in my blind with peanut butter and corn and crackers and I shot a 3 squirrels and a partridge. So must be the bait is working

Guess it depends on if you really mean you want to exterminate red squirrels or take shots at them hunting style.
If extermination, put out a few small Have A Hart traps ($15) baited with peanut butter. When you get a red, exterminate it. If you get another animal you don't want to exterminate it, let it go.

Warfarin is the main ingredient in rat poison, It causes internal bleeding, that's how it kills.
It is also a medication, given to people, used to thin out the blood thereby preventing blood clots which can cause strokes.

I'd rather shoot em than poison them just so I have something to do. But I'll have to try warfarin by turkey coop if it ever gets rats again.

Poisoning them is just stupid! they die slowly and run to find water. In the meantime something else like a Hawk or other Predator catches and eats them and dies itself.
You don't have to Poison near the coop either. Just setup an area to attract the rats away from the Turkeys. (An area with a wood backstop or something) If there's food there they will come. Shooting is much more fun too!

I suggest that you use black sunflower seed and just persevere and work on the patience thing - yes, the seed will initially bring loads of birds in and if you just wait a bit the squirrels will soon follow.
For maximum effect do NOT shoot the birds and the squirrels will see them come and go and think that everything is OK.

The birds that come in are blue jays and chickadees so I don't shoot em. I put the poison in a container and put in the rats holes at night. We haven't had a turkey find it yet

It's not what the Turkeys are finding it what other wild animal like a Hawk may find. A Poisoned rat makes an easy meal. Even if you put it in their holes their instinct is to find water. They leave their dens. Just because you don't see them don't think they died in their hole.
Besides Honestly, Internal hemorrhaging is a horrible way to die. Even for a rat. Shooting them is much more fun and humane.

Yeah it is. I wish I could shoot them but in the snow every once in a while you will see tracks. There is really no way to pattern them. I haven't seen them or holes Ina while so hopefully there gone. I don't like the idea of poisoning but my dad put it out. We tried trapping but never caught one single rat.

Didn't read your other post very good. My dad was telling me that he got my pump put together for my Benjamin discovery. My chickens eat mice not sure if they eat rats but if them or another hawk or something ate it it would be like poisoning Hawks and owls too.
