How Much is That?

I waited for months to get the EDgun R5M Matador with the laminated stock. I even spoke by phone to Brian at EDgun West about acquiring the rifle when the next shipment arrived -- this was in November 2018. He took my email address and agreed to notify when the next shipment arrived. To date, no notification. However, after checking EDgun West's site ~3 weeks ago, I found that the R5M Matador(s) had in fact arrived at EDgun West.

The Matador R5Ms listed were all decked out in the walnut stocks. These bullpups are listed at $1875. Further investigation on EDgun West's site reveals that the laminated stocks were available -- available at a cost of $195

I called Brian expressing my desire to obtain the EDgun Matador R5M in laminate. Brian informed me that he has the gun in walnut, however, he has no guns in laminate. Although the laminate stocks are available, sold separately.

You do the math!

This from the man whom I purchased 2 EDgun electronic gauges from, for $95 each. Later to find out that I was charged $18 dollars for the shipping of a parcel that cost what, $2 to ship by USPS. I learned from this incident to always ask for the total cost of my transaction, including shipping cost.

This is Brian's business. He is free to charge whatever he can get for his merchandise. I've moved on. My next bullpup, to be purchased next week, will be the custom, hydro dipped FX Wildcat .30 caliber from Utah Airguns.

I completely understand your frustrations...But Edgun makes some pretty good Guns....FX on the other hand seen to push out guns without Paying attention to quality control witch is the total Opposit as Edgun....i just sold my FX wildcat here on AGN and found a nice R5 Matador .30 also here on AGN....I can honestly say that i would never buy another FX gun...UNLESS its at a really cool ticket...

Just had a bad experience with Edgun West also bought an R3M .25. Spoke with Brian about it twice before I bit the bullet and bought it. Added the extra moderater which he installed prior to shipping. Got it in mounted a Nikon 3x9x40 EFR scope gun was shooting 20 inches high at 35 yards and groups were about two inches. Called Bryan his reasoning was that the scope rail has 20 MOA built in and that I would have to buy a good scope. I returned the gun as a defect he refunded my purchase price of the gun but not my shipping as it says on his website. Well in short it only cost me 75.00 shipping for the round trip and a lesson well learned.

Here is a 50 yard 3 shot group after sight in of the returned rifle shooting at 900 FPS. I didn't return your shipping costs because I found this weapon to be within factory specs. Most places would have charged a restocking fee.

From Edgun West site:

Items which are not in the original packaging or otherwise not in new, salable condition are subject to a minimum 15 percent (15%) restocking fee.

Is that your policy? Or is that "what most places would" do?

Killemdead, thanks for your comments. Was there some problem with the FX Wildcat that you sold "here on AGN"?

I currently own 5 FX air rifles, including the FX Wildcat .25 caliber pictured above, and 3 FX Impacts, 2 of the Impacts are pictured also. I just recently -- and quite reluctantly sold my FX Boss to a forum member. Great rifle, laser accurate, lightweight, low maintenance and simple design.

The target in the photo above was done with my Wildcat at 55. yards. This was done on one of those rare days when everything seems to come together, i.e. weather conditions, pellet consistency, mental tranquility, etc. The Wildcat consistently performs well, however, I don't expect to replicate that one-hole group anytime soon.

I have never had a problem with any of these rifles -- that I didn't cause myself. That one problem was when I doubled-loaded pellets in my Wildcat. As such, I have supreme confidence that the FX Wildcat .30 caliber I purchase will meet the high standards of quality and performance that I have come to expect from this brand.

Top notch manufacturer, vendor who understands the benefits of establishing and maintaining a positive reputation with their customers -- i.e. Utah Airguns -- how can I miss?

I love airguns and my goal is to own at least one gun from the higher-end manufacturers, just because. I try to be fair when rating the guns I use and I never judge a gun that I haven't had hands-on experience with. That is why I sought to acquire the EDgun Matador. Based on my experience with the aforementioned vendor of the Matador, I guess I'll have to make an exception and bypass the vaunted EDgun line.

Again, thanks for your input.

I recall Brian from Edgun West talking about Ed receiving a batch of walnut stocks that were unacceptable and decided to ship them out with new laminate stocks at no additional charge.

The guns that Brian received sometime in October or November with the laminate stocks were the last batch and the guys that ordered them got lucky. When they were in stock, I didn't have the cash available until late December.

I was bummed about the new shipment of R5M Matadors not offered with the laminate stocks but I placed an order for a red/gray laminate stock anyways.

I guess it depends how much you want one. I should be receiving the stock hopefully on Monday. At least I'll have two stocks.

I just came back from my family's property and did some 50, 75 and 100 yard shooting. These are all shot straight from the tin. No weighing or measuring head diameter. Just checking for bent pellet skirts. Granted, I'm not the best shooter but here's some groups;

5 shot groups at 50 yards on the left and 10 shot groups at 50 yards on the right.

Some 5 shot groups at 75 yards. The top group could be easily covered by a dime or a nickel.

10 shot group at 100 yards. Without the flyer on the top, it measures at 1.13 inches. With the flyer, 1.53 inches.

Just to be fair, I shot that gun while castbullet had it and there is no way it would put three touching at 50 yards, the gun was throwing fliers, it was shooting 2 inch groups at 50. I'm not disputing your word but I shot the gun, I know what it was doing. You obviously fixed the problem and shot that group. Why don't you take pictures of the baffles inside the moderator where it was clipping and post them here? Castbullet is probably the most honest guy I know, don't try to make him look like a liar. If you hadn't been so short with him on the phone, he would have fixed the gun himself and kept it. Th man has a lathe and a mill and is a skilled smith, it's just the principle of the deal, it should have never been shipped out like that, you obviously didn't test the gun prior to shipping.

So you figured out Brian's dastardly ways to make money from his business. When you figure out Utah Airguns is in the business for profit too will your attitude change? What's the purpose of this post again?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Good morning, John.
I had no idea these vendors were in business to "make money". Thanks for the information.
I'll call Brian up right away and apologize. I'll also tell him that it's okay to make a killing off of me in one sale. $20 for shipping 2 gauges that weigh over one-half an ounce each. In fact, he should charge at least $100 each for such weighty merchandise.
I'll be sure to call Joe Brancato, DonnyFL et al and inform them of the huge mistake they made not charging me shipping for those much heavier parcels I received from them in last few weeks
*Who was it that wrote the parable of "The Goose that laid the GoldenEgg"? Was it Mr. Aesop?
Too late to contact him to find out the purpose of the parable, I guess.
Have a great day.
I've made 3 purchases from Brian, 1 Edgun R5M Long .22, 2 extra .22 mags, and a blue laminate stock. No issues with any purchases and shipped right away. Shipping also wasn't very much at all for all 3 orders I think $40 total on all 3. Have also sent him an email at about 630pm and was expecting next day answer and within 15 minutes had a very detailed response.
