How much can a feral pigeon eat?

Nice shot Bob!

Yeah, quite a crop full and considering the size of the flocks that hang around the feeders - no wonder the farmers are happy to see them shot.

On my permissions, chipmunks are a big concern. A pigeon will eat the corn it takes, the chipmunks will grab and stash every kernel the can. I did an experiment and put out 4 cups of corn and one chipmunk (frantically running back and forth) hauled it all to its burrow in under an hour. An owner told me that he was doing an excavation and unearthed a chipmunk burrow about 75 yards from the barn that had about a feed-bags worth (50 pounds) of corn in it. Not surprising that the owners put a priority on chipmunks and my scoped FWB 300 sees a lot of use out on the farms. I set up a lawn chair near the corn cribs and settle down for some arcade-style shooting - 15-20 chipmunks is typical for a mornings' shoot.

I feed the ones around here once one pellet at a time 200+ in a little over 2 hours I had theoben mfr 20 cal and friend with my beeman springer
