A good friend who owns several PCP air rifles has leant me an older Daystate Air Wolf (.25cal). The gun has been is storage for 4 years. The batteries are dead, but appear to be the rechargeable hexagonal 8.4V, 850Mah NIMH pack. He is looking for the charger but may not have one. Wondering if I should buy a charger and give these a shot, or replace them? If consensus is to replace, I would appreciate it if there are any suggestions on best way to go. I have a lot of eneloop AAA batteries, if anyone makes a holder for them. I have not found one yet.



Second question is that my friend lives in a very rural area. He has been using the stock cap on the end of the gun as a moderator. I however live in a bit more populated area and would like to put as quiet a moderator on this as is practical. I would appreciate suggestions.

Michael Keaton would tell you That battery is probably dead-dead-deadsky because that set up required a once a month plug in charge to maintain it. I wouldn't try to MacGyver anything since that WAS a $2400 gun. Wouldn't wanna chance anything being old and not used for a while and those $50 batteries are available to order from AoA probably the charger too but you may find an aftermarket universal charger just be mindful on volts and amperage and you may just get lucky visiting a good ol RC shop. MOST IMPORTANT THING TO ADD Forgot to add- YOU NEED THE KEY TO FIRE HER UP DON'T FORGET THAT! Unless that gun was already LEFT in the ON position before it went into storage. This is an ANTI- THEFT thing Daystate came up probably in an attempt to recover stolen Airwolfs. ANYONE TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT KEY FROM A DAYSTATE DEALER TO GET IT TO TURN ON IS A BIG RED FLAG BABY!!! BAD BOYS BAD BOYS WHATCHA GONNA DO... Yo!

If all gets properly done and you still can't turn it on even WITH ITS KEY I have 2 OEM GCU Airwolfs and CPU boards put on the side since they have been replaced with the non factory HOT RODDED Heliboards. I can send one to you to plug in to try that way you can definitely know if it's worth it for you to purchase your own OEM electronics. They ain't cheap! Heliboard may be cheaper but ANYWHOO at least you will know if that AW is still OK. Good Luck. Yo!

I suggest you consider the possibility that borrowing an expensive airgun from a friend is wrought with potential hazards and pitfalls, including possibly losing a friend. Even a healthy airgun is only healthy at any given moment, and ALL airguns are notorious for failing without warning. 

That the borrowed Daystate already has problems in my opinion only increases the risks of your situation going badly awry. Unless you're willing to buy that gun from your friend for his price now or later, I suggest you abort.

OH NO ANOTHER JOE BIDEN MOMENT!!! OH MY DUH!!! I TOTALLY FORGOT to ASK you the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION OF ALL DUH!!! IS THAT AIRWOLF THE OLDER CDT OR THE MCT? CENTERAL DISCHARGE TECHNOLOGY OR MAPPED COMPENSATED TECHNOLOGY? Because there DIFFERENT and DONT WANT TO give you the WRONG INFORMATION. I had only ASSUMED you had the MTC so my above suggestion PRIMARILY relates to the MCT edition while sharing SOME common ground. Yo!

And whatever you do, don't try to charge that old battery while it is still in the gun. If you do, you may as well pour gasoline on the stock and light a match. That old battery could burn or explode. Just sayin'.

OH YEA... Had some old Nickle Cadmium AND Nicole Metal Hydride batteries go KA-BOOM!!! In the foolish attempt to assume very old long past discharged rechargeable batteries were STILL OK to USE. May as well throw them batteries straight into the ol microwave... Yo!

I am not sure if this gun is CDT or MCT. It is about 7 years old and is unregulated. How can I tell?

I have removed the battery and plan to start by attempting to charge this battery, and buy a new one if needed. Ill keep you posted on the results.

The CDT doesn't have the LCD screen and has an analog gauge/manometer inletted into one side of the stock just like the old Air Rangers. Early MCTs had BOTH LCD Screens and Manometers cut into the side of the stock while later models omitted the manomerers all together probably to cut cost and give a cleaner look and just relied on the LCD screen to give BAR pressure remaining. Yo!
