I'm talking Diana 48 specifically, and all springers generically? Reason I ask is I don't like to leave it cocked, but sometimes my targets don't show up for 20 minutes. The gun is a pain to cock when target presents itself.

I left my HW 95 cocked overnight in hope of toning it down. I lost 5-10 fps. That was with the factory spring.
When hunting I see 20 minutes as a non issue.

TX200 left more than 18 hours a few times . no problems .
A Remington 1000 ws left in a garage corner they said 3 years @ a garage sale , I went in their yard to load and shoot , found it was cocked and loaded , shot into the woods , what a surprise . just my personal experience . But i would not leave over an hour or so . I leave my HW97 cocked while awaiting game to show up .

Ya, i cleaned 1or 2 and plumb forgot to decock them . Did not hurt anything i could tell . Maybe as struckat said loose a few fps but seemed to come back after its was able to relax back to where it was after shooting some and regained that fps back .
Now this mostly was a day to a few days worth of being cocked not weeks or months ..

I scrag mine before i install .. 4- 12 hrs depending on how im procrastinating..

Hours has virtually no effect. Days maybe, but there are anecdotes about guns being left cocked for weeks with trivial power loss.

During a hunting session no problem. Leaving it cocked overnight or longer I'd be nervous about dry firing by mistake.

I havent found much of the spring dogma to be true. Yes it degrades performance ever so slightly, but it seems to be what the gun would lose with age and use as well. At least in my experiences. Unless it's a nitro piston and then they just leak out.

Over hyped, non-issue. If a spring ever does lose a bit, it's not hard to replace it.
FT shooters across the pond have been known to leave them cocked for weeks between matches stating that it smoothes them out. Also seems unlikely. Using springs causes fatigue far more than static compression.

If it's cocked it's loaded. I always discharge it in a safe direction before putting it away.

Some guns cant be easily uncocked. So your stuck keeping it cocked and loaded till uouf fine and just safely fire it to to discharge it . I guess that mostly bear trap guns . Or like a hw 95 that can be easy decockrd without firing it .. my hatsans have to be fired to discharge .. its a pain vs the hw. Lol

You have coil springs in your car, right? Do they eventually collapse by constantly being under load? If your airgun spring loses power, it was trash from the beginning and should be replaced with one from a reliable source. Gun manufacturers probably buy tons of springs from the lowest bidder. I doubt these are heat treated and shotpeened.

I have a Diana 45 that I bought new in the mid 80s. My ex wife had it for a couple of years. When I managed to get it back it was cocked and I suspect it was like that the whole time she had it. As far as I can tell it never lost any power and shoots great like it always has
