How do you deal with Daylight Savings Time? - Plinking at night video

Being the day after Christmas, my day today was packed with meetings that really screwed up my trigger time, so I was forced to plink at night. Here is a little video:

I missed four shots that I didn't show on video because there was no point, but all of the shots were from 45-80 Yards. I don't think that you could really see the cans that I was shooting at on the video because they were in between the tree limbs, but I am so familiar with my range that I can pull this off. I was shooting, standing at a door.

So, this is my therapy for the short days. I bought a little flashlight that is really bright that will mount in my Picatinny mounts on the bottom of my gun. I've thought about getting a few big flood lights, but I do have neighbors and don't want to make it look like a stadium was built next door. How do you guys deal with these short days, and limited daylight to shoot at stuff?

I take a few quick shot at night after work with a light attached. The limiting factor is the cold. Unless pesting, shooting in the cold sucks for me. But mostly I wait for those first blessed days of Spring.

Awww, man! I couldn't do it! I've got it bad! I have to get at least 20 or so shots off a day or I feel wrecked! I'm out there shooting at -10F or below, hoping that there may not be any moisture in my gun that will give me grief before I get my "quota" in.

@SkeeterHawk, when I get it bad? Out comes the low tech, hot water bottles. They help extend the sessions on weekends. I simply love to shoot. And know that many here feel the same. Shooting is the common bond…

Hot water bottles is a nice low-tech trick! I layer like hell, and have some really tight fitting gloves that I can tie my shoes with. Using magazines REALLY helps too.

@SkeeterHawk Thanks for the video, love the sound of cans getting whacked. Very nice shooting. Looks like the light works, perhaps an upgrade is in the future?

I hang my cans also. Great way to get the most out of them. Have you tried putting a smaller can inside of a larger can? A Campbell's soup can goes inside of a a Hungry Man's can and makes a very long lasting target.

I have to resorted to shooting in my basement at 10 paces as my daily trigger time. Not as good as the range but trigger time is a good time!

Next time put some red reflector tape on your cans so we can see them, cool anyway.

nice , cool shooting , i have a similar flashlight very bright little square when focused out .

This is why I dipped my toe into red dots. My eyes see fine in the dark but looking into a scope or trying to find iron sights is a paaaiin in the dark. I flip on that red dot on super low setting AND can use both eyes for better peripheral vision.I like that flash light idea too

I work 2nd. I bought solar powered spot lights.I got a cheap set of 4. They last for hours. They come with remote controls but the remotes range and the lights r not that good. Good enuff tho for my purposes. I'm goona get more but with more lumens this time.

Me too! I just replaced them that day, so they rang pretty good.

I hope so. The light I bought said it had a ridiculous number of lumens, like 60,000. I also have this light from Harbor Freight that advertises 400 lumens, and the little one is not much brighter.

You are correct. Going back to regular time is the pain in the butt, so why don't we just stay in Daylight savings time?

Very nice setup! So, do you even have a peep hole in the insulation to shoot through? What a great idea! I just layer up, but I like that so much better.

Can you let us know the specs on the light? It looks like yours is putting out a better beam than mine is.

I have in the works a similar setup to illuminate my Bench Rest Target. I have a remote that can control solar powered LED flood lights at the target. I am thinking now that I may want to put a couple lights behind the BR target to make it easier to spot the holes.

I did make a 8x14 inch hole in the Styrofoam insulation.
I have the Odin Turbo. I don't think Olight makes that model anymore, but the do still make the Odin in a few different versions.

Impact, That light is perfect at that distance. I've been waiting for an example of what I envisioned putting on my FlashPup,thx. Skeeter, let us know how the back-lighting the target works out. It's really hard to see the cross-hairs of the AMX line of hawke scopes I use at night. The pro,s and cons of what might diminish one,s night vision need a for real world testing.

Shooting at night can be very satisfying.

I have done it a couple ways
1. Run an extension cord and plug in a halogen work light to illuminate the targets
2. Set up a LED flashlight to illuminate the targets.

There are battery operated work lights available also that could extend the range but most of my nighttime shooting is done at 50 yards and under

To combat cold weather shooting I have some options there too.
1. Adhesive body warmers. These last up to 10-12 hours so plan using them accordingly since they are disposable and wasteful to use for only an hour or two. I used them for work so I have them on most days during the colder months.
2. Sit on a heating pad
3. Set up a dish heater to radiate on my legs along with sitting on the heating pad
4. Long underwear and a balaclava

These are things that I have to do to enjoy shooting in the dark and cold.
