How do I tether a gun

OK, so thinking about shooting tethered from the bench. What all is needed to perform this magic?

Current setup is a Marauder .22 with an Air Venturi 90 Cubic Inch bottle regulated to about 3000 PSI. (give or take)

Obviously, I need a longer hose, but what else? Another regulator? How do you set it up?

I think you can get away with out using a regulator if you only fill you tank to the maximum your gun tank can handle. If your gun let say has a sweet spot were your best shooting is at 2200 psi in the gun then get a regular that will feed your gun a constant 2200 psi . You would then fill the tank to it’s max and you gun will stay at 2200 until the tank drops below.

So to tether you need an external regulator. Also two hoses (one on each side of an external regulator). The regulator should at least be rated for higher than your supply bottle. Several types are available. I use the fully adjustable Ninja High pressure Fill Station. It is a set and forget it unit.
If you watch ebay they come up once in a while for a good price. I bought two of them for about a $100 a piece. Whenever I shoot target I use it to take out any shot curve that can happen with different pressures.

The top picture location is where we camp in the mountains. 125 yard shooting lane. It is nice because it is blocking the wind.

I just happen to have an external reg I bought from Joe Brancato back when I had a 6000 psi tank as my air supply. It isn't as pretty as the Ninja but it works the same. Just dial in the desired output pressure and you are good to go.

But one other thing you can do that doesn't require a reg. Once in a while when my guppy gets down under 3000 psi like maybe to 2800 and it can't charge the gun fully, I will tether it to the gun anyway. Because the tank pressure is under 3000 psi you don't have to worry about it over charging your gun. And yes, as you shoot the pressure will begin to drop. But it will maintain the middle of the shot string for a very long time, depending on the cubic feet size of the bottle. Doing this on my Marauder 25 will get me well over 100 shots.

let me ask this - 

​I have the ninja tank that's regulated to about 3000 psi. That won't over pressure the rifle cylinder, so should be good there. If I were to add an internal regulator to the gun, and tether directly to the tank, do you think that would work? Maybe all I need is a longer hose for the existing bottle and a Huma regulator?

If your bottle output pressure is 3000, then as long as there is >3000 psi in the tank, it will keep your gun at 3000 psi. 
I don't know what "full" charge is on your gun but if it is 3000, that might give you some funny shooting characteristics. But yes, if the bottle is regulated, you can tether it right to the gun. You wouldn't need an external regulator.

I think for now, I'll wait. My setup would be so mickey mouse, I wouldn't expect much for results. Once I acquire a new gun that is regulated, I may try shooting tethered. The ability to control air pressure through the entire process seems important to make this work well.

If you don't want a rather bulky regulator the huma inline regulator might be a solution. Works great for me, my steyr is regulated and the huma converts the 300 bar from the SCBA tank down to about 170 bar to leave it tethered to my gun.

So many options. The inline regulator is an excellent option and one that may fit my setup better. Still, I think I'll wait for the whole setup, that I can do it right the first time and not mickey mouse the thing. Still saving for a new regulated gun (OK, it's a Crown), and nearly where I can place the order. Building a tethered setup would take away from the primary goal of the new gun.

It is interesting that there are so many options though. I love the information we get here. Absolutely invaluable!
