How bout that warcat

Anyone elze excited about tha new fx warcat, i kno i am, beautiful gun, ted and utah airguns did a great job, who will be purchasin it?

I've had on on order since day one when they took deposits (May 2nd). I've spoken with Utah Airguns several times and they got more preorders for the gun than they expected.

It has the upgraded barrel, cerakote, special dip, picattinny rail under the forestock and I forget what else.

Sure hope it comes soon!

Guys,

Can you help me out here (I'm an 'FX Outsider', if you will..): I have a FX Wildcat Mk II in .25 cal (not compact) coming for my son. What barrel comes with the gun standard, and what pellets does that barrel shoot best? What is the 'upgraded barrel' (or 'X Barrel') that is reference in this thread?

Sorry for my ignorance, I'm a RAW shooter (though I do admire several FX guns, as well as several other guns from other brands).

Thanks,

Sean

Hey Sean,

The Wildcat mk2 comes with the standard FX smooth twist barrel. However, the new mk2 Wildcats have a updated block that allows changing of the barrel liner so for example you could buy a liner with a different twist rate to suit a specific pellet if you wanted.

Thanks for the info. So are these barrels still mostly smooth bore, with the last section grooved for the twist? What is the 'X barrel' then? I'm not super familiar with the FX nomenclature, being an outsider...

The standard Smooth Twist are as you describe, smooth with the last section twist. The X barrels have the twist all the way from Breech to Crown, the whole lenth of the barrel.

It’s in the WAY they are rifled. LW barrels have traditional lands and grooves, that are made by affecting the inside of the barrel and creating the channels that run the length. They are very well defined cuts int the metal.

The Smooth Twist barrels are made from the outside of the barrel. There are no sharp cut or shaped grooves into the metal.

What is the difference from the 'X barrel' to a traditional barrel like the LW traditionally rifled barrel then (since both are grooved the full length)? I thought the whole advantage of FX was the smooth twist system, so why are they now going back to a fully rifled barrel? Sorry, that is a bit confusing to me...

Hey the normal smooth twist is smoothbore the majority of the way with the end of the barrel cut out and rifling pressed in at the end. Whereas smooth twist x has rifling pressed in the outside on soft liner throughout the barrel.

If my wording is off check out this video for better understanding as I may not be 100% accurate.

I think this guy shows in depth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUm6Xpvv6yo&t=725s

Also Matt talks about it somewhere in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ0pbRs6NqI&t=52s&index=2&list=FLvBPiNy5rXN8Prvm-Bgm7sA

Thanks Intenseaty22 and FukoChan, that helps better explain. The fundamental difference is the manufacturing-deforming from the outside, through the wall, to cause the 'groove' on the inside. Sounds to me more similar to the polygon barrels than the 'traditionally rifled' barrels (with the exception that the polygon barrels, I believe, are formed from the inside). I say 'similar' because in the sense that neither leaves cut edges on the grooves and has 'smooth' transitions between the 'lands' and the 'guides' ("rifling") down the bore-sound correct?

I'll take a look at the videos this evening-thanks for posting the links.

I'm getting excited for my son's WC to arrive-hoping having that will help get his butt of his stupid electronics to come out and shoot with me more than he has in the past...

Let me know if that works! The only way I see my teens is when I turn off the WiFi from the remote app on my phone ?

It’s to the point that I don’t want my 3 year old anywhere near electronics lol
