Hosts for the 2023 and 2024 AAFTA National Championship

Greetings Clubs,

The Nationals at Puerto Rico is right around the corner! AAFTA is excited to bring a new level of support to the event and our membership. This year we have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to raise funds for the event, Puerto Rico the hosting club, and our membership body.
We have diligently promoted clubs, events, and sponsors for the Nationals on social media. This year, we will have some fantastic items available for auction. So be ready to take home some great things at great prices! More details to be forthcoming.
This brings us to our next focus… 2023 Nationals! The board has heard of some interested clubs pondering the idea of hosting. However, we have not received any official bid requests. As you know, we want to make the announcement at this year’s Nationals, so time is running out! It’s time to let the nation know about your club. It is also the time to know that AAFTA is behind you more than ever to help you succeed. Our focus is to provide you with the resources needed for you to put on a spectacular event.
Looking beyond 2023, AAFTA has recognized that planning these events takes time, evaluation, and coordination. So, we are ready to look beyond this year and start preparing for the next. The board is ready to accept bids for Nationals two years out. So, we are asking clubs to submit bids for 2024 as well. This will be the nationals just before the Worlds, so there undoubtedly will be some excitement!
“What does hosting a Nationals do for our club?”
  • We all share a passion for field target. When your club is ready for national recognition for all the work it’s members have put in, this is your time.
  • There are financial benefits as well. If you look at the average entry fee of, say $125, and you bring in 100 shooters, that’s an initial $12,500 budget. Then add in the benefit of sponsorship that AAFTA is providing, which could possibly bring in several thousand additional. On top of that, you are looking at a substantial boost for your club. Of course, all great events will have expenses. However, if your club needs that extra something, this may be one of the best fundraisers.
“We don’t have the resources.”
  • Remember that AAFTA has all the targets you need to run the event. So we will ship them to you.
  • AAFTA provides seed monies to get you started. Starter funding is provided if necessary.
  • The website and BOG provide planning resources that are available to assist you.
  • Remember you are not alone. With good planning and time, you can move mountains.
What is the next step? We ask for your bid as soon as possible so we can decide and make an announcement in Puerto Rico.
We are asking for both 2023 and 2024. But, of course, next year is our priority at the moment.
Remember…you are the future of Field Target in this country.

Sincerely,
AAFTA Board of Governors

Letting established clubs use there OWN Targets would be a HUGE FINANCIAL incentive for any club thinking of holding a Championship event.
Understood.
To insure quality control for the match and to support host clubs we are working towards the financial ability to ship the official AAFTA targets at not cost to the host.
-Thanks

I'm really encouraged by the actions the BoG has taken in supporting the clubs hosting the Nationals.

And, I think we need additional support in developing the venues necessary for clubs to organize around.... Especially to create at least four locations that make attending possible without traveling more than say.. 1,200-1,500 miles once every 4 years.

On the west coast we really only have the Morro Bay CA location that's really suitable for enough competitors.
The east coast and north and south have more to choose from, but it seems like AAFTA really needs at least 4 locations they can rotate through if no other clubs are interested...

just ideas.

No matter how you look at it the Nationals have not been in the NorthEast since 2006 and when Shawn Mc Daniels ran the Crosman Event in East Rochester, NY I know he put in for it at least a couple times and rejected. They have a great venue to host a big National. Not sure if the present match director would put in for it again but we are long overdue up this way.

I also think it's a great idea to plan further out. Asking for hosting clubs for 2024 is a good idea.

Along that line... why not go even further out like the worlds WFTF does.

If there was a rotation between, AT LEAST four geographically spaced clubs, who AAFTA could count on, and those clubs could count on hosting the Nationals, if no other club fairly close by wanted to, (then they should work together), then that would add stability for both AAFTA and the clubs that made effort to secure a venue, prepare it, and organize around hosting the Nationals.

It all takes a lot of time and proper planning to do it right... let's start thinking that way.
