Hose security

Do any of you guys secure the fill hose with a strap or a line to the tank or compressor when you are filling your tanks? Do you feel this is a necessary safety measure incase a qd fitting let loose?

If you do run something like this will you please share pictures of your setup.

No but one can easily attach a string, cable, long zip ties, etc. to limit path of travel in case something lets loose. I'm always very aware of keeping my ugly mug far enough away to not get a foster in the forehead. THAT would leave a mark!

I use a small bungee cord.

It's called a whip check.

Couple tie wraps just to capture any initial energy if they let go.

I've had one pop off the fitting, totally my fault. It just jumped off without much fanfare at around 200 bar. Microbore don't have much air volume I guess

There is a thread here on AGN with a member showing a big gouge in his forehead from his fitting popping loose while charging. Standard safety protocol in u.s. navy diving program is to always secure your charging whip to a stationary object in case the line fails.

I use these, attached to the short cable with looped ends. Unfortunately, I could only find these made overseas.
They sell the plastic-coated wire rope in 12" pieces (cut your own) and the Ferrules simply crimp on. I used 1/16" (works fine, but never tested in real life), as they were out if 1/8" product at the time.

I don't and I've blown my fill whip off of my tank valve. It's a fat fill whip, not a micro-bore hose. Thankfully it happened early in the fill cycle. I make sure that I cover my nuts and wear eye protection. I usually keep a finger on the off switch.
