I have a European hornets nest on my field target course. I got stung so it’s war.
The nest is at about five feet above the ground. I can reach it all without a ladder. It is attached to a number of branches I can cut with clippers. And dump the nest into a trash bag.

My plan is to put on a full leather motorcycle racing suit. Full face helmet gloves and boots. Thick wet towel around my neck. Nothing exposed. I will dump a full can of wasp spray on the nest starting at the hole. So I block them in . Then cover the nest and go in and cut it out.

Anyone ever try this?
Am I gonna die?
What is wrong with my plan beside is changing after I get punched in the face.

I used to collect and sell the nests after it froze. Be sure to tape every opening {cuffs and neck} they will find a way in and that is no fun. Make sure you have plenty of wasp spray for when they come out to say hi. Mark

I've always sprayed Hornets nest at night. Attack them when it's cool and they're more inactive. I've also shined a dim light from opposite direction I'll approach from and put something to create a silhouette there, if it can move slightly the better, gives them something else to attack besides me.

Would your chances from not poking the nest result in not getting stung ? ..lol

Definitely go after dark !! I've dealt with many of these over the years on the farm / operating heavy equipment & on home sites. My preferred method to anything else ( in the proper area) is a can of starting fluid & a Lighter ! If fire is a problem (or you take ALL safety concerns to heart) go with a least 2 cans of wasp& hornet spray ( NOT FOAM ) & saturate it till the cans are MT! The largest I've ever seen & dealt with would not fit in a 5 gal. bucket! After spraying in early am , the pyramid of dead bees under the nest that evening would have filled a large coffee can. You get most of the nest if waiting till eve. when they rest for the night.

I’ve dealt with a cpl of these. It really is no big deal if approached right. Go at it right at dusk. They are extremely docile at that time. I did the same thing as you. I over a cpl days doused the nest with spray. I think two times and by then they were all dead. No protective gear never got stung. At that time of the evening they never even made an attempt to defend themselves.

Go at night. Make a swift attack with spray for say 5 seconds. Run like hell back indoors. The next day, observe the nest and repeat that evening till your following daytime observation reveals no activity. Then I would soak it good with wasp spray. Doing it naked in daylight would add some excitement to the endeavor.

I have to cut the grass at the range on Friday . Rain over the weekend and I want to shoot in the rain for practice.
I am going to go in like a honey badger . Blast it and get the nest into a trash bag as quick as possible. I have clippers to cut the branches. I have a go pro. I can put it on my chest .
Nothing like filming your own death.

I have a couple tactics, only one includes and air rifle. So I will mention that one here. You need an air rifle and an empty fire extinguisher or stainless water type one or a super soaker(or pressure washer with soap pickup) . Pump a ton of dish soap into it and fill with water. I shoot the nest to rile them up with a couple pellets and hose them down with soap solution and watch them all suffocate. Or I go out before sun up with a shop vac taped to a big piece of abs drain pipe and vacuum them all up. Hornets to full sized africanized bee hives after I've been hit a few time prior. It's total war with stinging insects, pigeons and ground squirrels for me.
