How about just before sunrise when air temp is coldest and the effers are in the nest but sluggish?
I've used Raid Black to kill individual yellowjackets and paper wasps when I see them, but not a nest of them. Good for maintenance and prevention of nest building. The fuller the can, the better the spraying distance.
Also good on individuals: hand-held vacuum cleaner that has fine dust in the bag or holding space. The dust clogs their breathing pores so that they die, in plain view if the holding area is clear plastic. Amuses me way too much. I like watching them die from Raid soaking, too.
Baldface hornets get especially mean when drunk from feeding on fermented fallen pears and apples. BEWARE.

I didn’t read all 5 pages, but I took a Nest out the other day using my pressure washer, it worked better than anything else that I have tried in the past.

Not my friend when they nested inside a tree holding up my backstop, three feet from my target stand you can see in picture. I've been unable to shoot at home for some time..

Much safer to put some fipronil on the bait they like, all dead in less than 24hr without risk to your health.

honey bees are always our friend.... their pollination feeds the planet. But no tree hugging here... just saying call a bee keeper as they are always looking to relocate honey bees.

If you like excitement, entertainment and don't mind some danger, then buy one of these and shoot the nest and run like hell.
If you are real brave/stupid just save your money and used a baseball bat or broom handle.

I need to cut the grass Friday. This is a small nest and should take less than ten minutes to spray remove and dispose of. I am going to take precautions of course. And hope it all goes well.
If it was honey bees or even yellow jackets I would probably leave them alone. But these are a threat to the safety of people coming into the field target range.
And I don’t think this is going to be the last time I do this. But these first time is always exciting.

An FYI for you guys. Brake cleaner in an aerosol can works quite well on wasps.
One blast and they drop instantly dead. Wait til evening when they're all nestled onto their nest for the night and you can give them their final "Nighty Nite" send off.
