I saw a video where a guy used a can of foam sealer plugging the entrance hole then discarded the nest but I think one should do this at night like said above in the cloak of darkness....

12 gauge and #9 shot will mess up a nest. If you don't want to keep it. Or sit back a long way and shoot a bunch of pellets. You can even shoot individual ones off it. A 100 shots ripped through will hit the Queen and the larvae enough.
But if you need it gone poisoning it at night is the way.

there was an old western movie where there was a train full of soldiers and they dropped a hornet nest wrapped in a sheet or something into the box car to chase the soldiers out and shot them up. that's about all the details I can remember.

The only other advice I can add is to make sure the GoPro has a fully charged battery and you carry a note instructing the coroner to upload the video content online. That way your efforts can be described as educational.
All joking aside, be very careful and the moment the situation takes a turn for the worst, immediately get as far away as possible. Do not try to push a bad position and hope it improves. Hornets have no sense of humor.

We had a guy remove a nest of bald face hornet. Black and white and mean as heck. They are actually capable of squirting venom.

I am not taking this lightly. They can actually kill you as dead as a grizzly bear can. Anaphylactic shock is a real danger from getting a large number of bee stings.

I’m going to talk to an exterminator that gets his brakefast at the same place I do. I’ll ask if a honey bee suite will work.
This is what I plan to use.
Motorcycle leather non ventilation and the pants I will double with a layer of rain gear.
It should all be to thick for the stinger to penetrate even if the puncture the outer layers.

That's how I do africanized bees. In the dark and the cold when they're slow and less agro. But hornets aren't always holed up in a tree or a place with a single exit and no way to chew thru to get out. Great stuff on a cool morning that turns into a hot day will cook em.

Duct tape all seems and your neck. It doesn't take a ton to block their weapon. Aerosol contact adhesive is also a hilarious way to handle them if you can hose them and the hole down, or the entirety of a paper nest. If it's in the dirt a pressure washer is the jammy. You can move enough air with the spray to keep them back. A leaf blower helps too. Just plan it out and you will be victorious.
