Home Built Pellet Trap

As an auctioneer (apprentice, for now), I am always coming across interesting and unusual items. Recently, I spotted some old cast iron window weights, and for some reason, the idea of a pellet trap came into my head. These particular weights are flat cast iron slabs that measure about 4" x 24" and just over 1/4" thick, with each one weighing about 12 pounds. I constructed a wooden frame, and added some black iron pipe and fittings to support the weights. It provides about a 17" x 15" shooting window in the front. I set the frame on a pair of folding metal sawhorses, then arrange the weights. I have six of these weights for a total of 72 pounds, so I didn't want to permanently attach them. I'm going to add a frame for holding cardboard & paper targets at the front, but am still mulling over the design. For now, I just place some cans or a cardboard box with drawn-on targets at the front and start shooting. I thought the pellets would deflect downward, so I was going to add some sort of catch tray at the bottom, but for the most part, the pellets seem to hit, then travel to the back of the trap. I simply placed another of the weights at the back of the trap, and most of the pellets are deposited there. The pellets in the picture are .177 at 40 feet from a Webley Vulcan, but I have also shot my .25 Marauder at 75 feet with similar results, only more deformation. All together, I have less than $50 in this setup.
