Hole on the side of air cylinder on a Hatsan AT44PA?

Aloha,

Does anyone else have a small blind hole on the side of the air cylinder? I may have had a pin drilled out to remove the end plug?

They probly put it there so there would be a burr in there to tear up your o-rings when you remove the cap? ;^)

Just checked with the machinest and he remembers drilling out a retaining pin when we shortened the air cylinder.

Now that makes sense as to why it is there.

There was no retaining pin. The hole is there to help prevent a motivated person from earning the Darwin Award.

If the cap is unscrewed while pressurized, the O-ring will pass the hole while there is still plenty of thread engagement, allowing the air to evacuate harmlessly...to be contrasted against the alternative which is to let the user continue until the end cap goes flying at a high rate of speed as it seeks the nearest cranium to slow its departure.

Pretty sure a retaining pin was in the hole. Removing it allows the end plug to be unscrewed. Are you positive about no retaining pin? I dont remember a hole when it was new.

The tube on my AT44 has never been modified and it has the same hole (and no pin). Many guns, both PCP and CO2, have the same sort of vent for the safety reason.

Thanks for the help. I must have mistaken guns, we drilled a retaining pin on some gun(over 12 guns purchased in two months).
