Why is it that some high mag scopes can focus clear and sharp at 10 yards and others not? It's not a price thing persé. Some cheaper scopes can and some more expensive scopes can't and vice versa.

It’s a design choice they make, most high power scopes are aimed for 50 meter benchrest and further distances (their target market is firearms) and some cheap scopes are aimed towards airguns and therefore focus down to 10 yards

Yup. But I will add that some can easily (if one is willing to toss the warranty in the trash) be adjusted to shoot at 10y at the cost of longer ranges. Ex. - I use to adjust Sightron scopes that would only come down to 15-20y, to focus nicely at 8-10y. I lost 'infinity' and if I remember correcty, 75y wouldn't come into clear focus. That was before Hector worked with Sightron to bring FT versions to the market. Upvote 0
Many scopes are designed for "powder burners" and they don't need a close parallax correction. LOL, even the 2.5-7x 28mm Weaver rimfire scope I bought decades ago would parallax correct only down to 50 yards............

You loosen the lockring and adjust the objective lens carrier in or out. Moving it out closer to the target shortens the parallax distance.

Why would you use a high mag scope at 10 yards? My Sightron S3 focuses to 13 yards, but I've never gone less than 25.

Because, I have an indoor 10yd range. I enjoy shooting indoor in the winter at nights, sometimes for tuning and fiddling around , sometimes just to shot

Because shots at Field Target Matches can be as close as 10 yards. Some devious match directors "accidentally" set an occasional target at 9 or 9.5 yards.

Manufacturers don’t exactly keep parallax or minimum focus a secret, it should be known before you purchase, its a major consideration when purchasing a scope. As for buying random scopes, with random specs, it probably won’t be able to focus under 25yds.

I have a older Weaver T-36 that will focus down to 50ft which is around 16-17yds, I use all winter in my basement and that measures roughly 16.5yds it’s pushing the low end focus but does the job!
