Hi guys, I am new to the site... I need some scope help.

Hi All,

I am looking for a scope and rings to install on my PCP that will focus down to 6 yards.
I will not shoot anything over 25 yards.
I have a UTG Bug Buster That will focus at that range but the glass is not good.
My gun is an FX .177 MK 2.
I will be shooting rats, Iguanas, and targets in my back yard.
Can you guys give me some Scope suggestions?

Thanks!

Tony

I would just suffer (for now) with that bugbuster till the SWFA SS 3-15x42 becomes available again. It will be well worth your wait. I promise! If you can't wait order a BSA 4-14x from Aliexpress $100 will blow the Crap outa that bugbuster (for now). FX No Limits 30mm 11mm would be fine for your MK2 (WC???) they have then Picatinny if you have the Impact and those rings can be used for the SWFA later. Yo!

Keep in mind you will need adjustable rings to get enough elevation to get the point of impact up into the scope view from such a high scope height at such a close range. It will require almost 35 MOA/ 10 mills more than what is already required for a more normal 25 yard zero. Under 10 yards is probably easier with a traditional style rifle with iron sights right on the barrel.

What PCP will it be mounted on? We also need to know your budget for the scope. It will narrow it down a whole lot. For a scope that measures down to 6 meters, I recommend the Dedal Stalker. It focuses at least to 5 yards. Another one is the SWFA Classic 3-15x42 FFP. It focuses down to 6 meters. Another good option and you could never go wrong with is the SWFA SS Fixed 10X although it only focuses down to 10 yards.

Dedal Stalker is really good.

You can also add a "bottom up" laser somewhere under the barrel to help calculate the holdover for ultra close shots from 6-20 yards without clicking. Scope height 2.2" zeroed at 20 yards, laser height -1.8 inches zeroed at 18 yards. Sight through the scope. If the laser is below the center, aim exactly halfway between the laser and the crosshairs. if the laser is above the center, aim with the crosshairs which will be 1/4 inch low at 17 yards, 1/4 high at 30, 1/4 low at 43 as the pellet flies through the arc. This is just an example which will depend on your pellet and velocity (JSB 18.1 gn at 880 fps), and scope height. You would need low magnification to see the laser at 6 yards which would require 7 mils of hodover. So 15 mils of visible holdover in the reticle. A first focal plane reticle is not required since you don't have to calculate anything in real scale. just split the difference and shoot.

.

I haven't tried it yet but always wanted too since I have many shots in barns under 8 yards, I click down to 12 yards and hold over 3 mils

I would have to look at some of my scopes to see if any of them have the available field of view on low power to show 15 mils

blue line is the impact point on the flight path, green line is the laser.

🔶Few scopes will focus below 10 yards....

🔶Besides the above mentiones UTG Bug Busters and the SWFA 3-15x42, I found:

▪Vector Cerato 3-9x32 [probably made in the same factory as the UTG Bug Buster] (3y)

▪MTC Prismatic 12x50 (7y)

▪MTC Prismatic 10x30 (7y)

🔶 The option to mount a laser and zero it for the extreme close range shots is great — I am actively searching for the right equipment to do it.

You could even mount two lasers (they are light), one red, one green, and zero each one to a different range:

3y = red laser

9y = green laser

6y = aim between red and green laser dot 😄

🔶To get a sharper scope image at closer ranges than 10y — with a 10y minimum parallax scope — the following helps: 😊

▪if the magnification is lower

▪if the objective lens is smaller (say a 32mm instead of a 50mm objective)
