Hi Guys: Can anybody tell me how to remove the barrel shroud on the HatSan bully

I looked into that awhile back, and contacted John(can’t remember his last name, but he is mentioned in DonnyFL’s website as a machinist friend of Donny’s) I sent John all the pics of the shroud end, the barrel inside, along with all measurements he needed in the form of pics. What it came down to is he suggested that I needed to not only trim back the shroud like I wanted originally, but to also have to trim back the barrel. This would have to be done at the breech end of the barrel. That barrel is like 24” long inside that shroud, and you’ll be lucky if you have even 5” of shroud past the barrel.

My original plan was to have a moderator start just about an inch past the bottle for a more sleek, compact look. As always, I like to have a back up plan, so I contacted Hatsan to see how much it was for a spare barrel and shroud, just in case the end result resulted in poor accuracy,(which John mentioned could possibly happen)excessive rapport, etc., and in the end, along with the machining costs, it was too much $$ to justify for a more sleek, compact look. Currently, my Bully in 30 caliber is shooting so very well, so, after weighing things out, I abandoned the idea.

Here are the pics I sent to John. I’d like to correct myself from my first reply to you, the barrel inside is not 24”, but right at 20 1/2”, and you were close at the 5” past that. Actually just under 5” a bit is all you have of shroud past the barrel nut. The blue tape if where I wanted mine cut at, to replicate a generic photo I found on the web of a shortened Bully shroud with what looks like a DonnyFL Emperor moderator on the end. I shared this photo with Donny and he said that was not his moderator, and it could be that whoever owned that gun may have had built a slip over type of moderator that slipped over his factory shroud just to give it that look. Not saying anything bad here about John, but he didn’t think it was a good idea to cut that barrel back. To many unforeseen problems could arise.

Something I’d like to experiment with is to remove the hair curler style baffles inside the shroud, and convert over to cone baffles like the Marauder uses. That is a proven method of quieting a gun down, to actually strip the air, as proven on the Marauder and recently I did that same design to my 30 cal FX Wildcat.
