Love all of your stuff, but for the love of God PLEASE stop with the 10 yard accuracy tests and 10 yard pellet tests. That's merely spitting distance.

I mean seriously, a Red Ryder with BB's will group good at 10 yards.

Oh I dunno. I think if a pellet is flying good at 35 that it will more than likely continue to fly good. But at 10-15 even if a projectile was flying stupid you wouldn't know it that soon.

I kinda have a theory on testing for accuracy, particularly on my channel, Field Target Tech. I'll test at 30 yards, which is my Field Target zero distance for all of my Field Target guns. If the wind is not stupid strong, I will always test at 55 yards. If some pellet does not group at 30, it definitely will not group at 55, with little or no wind.

On the occasion that I find an excellent gun/pellet combo that is superior in the wind, I'll always show that pellet at 55 yards, to show what the pellet does or doesn't do in the wind at the farthest competitive distance for Field Target.

There is this one break barrel I have .....and this may just be a weird coincidence...but good groups at 25 and 35 are a breeze, but 30 yard groups are never quite as good. Kinda makes me wonder if my pellets are slightly unstable at that particular range.

Can that happen ?

Unless it's a vintage rifle designed for 10yd/10M shooting. I don't have that distance in the house and it's illegal to shoot outside around here. No car to get to the 16 bucks a pop indoor range either. Wish I did. My Striker 1000x did this with CPHP .22's @ 25 yards freehand sighting in the scope;

The lower left group fits inside a dime.

well i don't use 10yds but at the same time when a member, youtuber or what have you does it, they feel like they're contributing in their own way and thats a good thing. we are all airgunners and should support one another. No disrespect to you or your post OP but if one doesn't like seeing people shoot at 10yds, then I would suggest to not watch it and keep it moving. I for one, like them all for the simple reason that we were all there at that place at one time or another whether we admit it or not.

I start at 10 yards in the garage..... Im still shocked at how some pellets dont group at 10......

If a pellet doenst group at 10, Ill shoot a couple more groups of it, just to be sure it isnt me. if they contiune to be ugly, I drop them from further testing.....

I know what you mean. I got a tin of .22 cal Crosman Destroyers that are kinda scary to shot. I’m lucky to keep them in a 8” group at 10 yards. None of my five .22 cal guns I have like them at all. I have a mix of guns too, from a .22 cal break barrel NP2, multi pump Benjamin 392, a Prod, a 2400KT with WL barrel and a 1322. None of the guns will shot them worth a darn. I get some guns wouldn’t like a certain pellet but five different guns? No idea why either. They don’t look bad. They don’t seem too loose or too tight. Other than a handful of pellets in the tin I didn’t see any obvious damage or deformities to them. They looked quite nice actually. But they sure don’t shot nice. Only thing consistent with them was that they were consistently bad with every single one of my guns. Should try another tin I suppose but haven’t really wanted to spend the money or time on another Crosman Destroyer pellet because the experience has been so terrible. Just too many other pellets work that work just fine in my guns to bother with them ever again.

I agree. I often times see a video on an airgun and click to watch it only to be let down with the range test. With that being said though I do understand that space could be an issue. So take the thing out somewhere if possible. Usually though with a little searching I can find what I am looking for.

I'd be willing to bet that more airguns are shot @ 10 yards than all other distances together. Maybe not by people that frequent airgun forums, but buy the average person that buys and airgun over a firearm. Anymore no matter what gun,scope,pellet, or bi pod for that matter there is plenty of youtube videos for every level. I have no problem with 10 meter tests.

Closer range has a tendency to eliminate human error and windage variation between shots. You don't need 100 yard groups to tell whether a barrel likes a particular pellet or not. Grouping examples aren't supposed to be exhibitions of skill, instead they're just supposed to be indicative of what the barrel will do with a particular pellet in the simplest of circumstances. I usually do 25-50 yard groups on video, and make no apologies for it. Whether I do 25 or 50 depends on how windy of a day it is and what caliber I'm shooting.

Include 10 yards in your testing, but dont make that the ONLY distance you test at. For me, its the first round of data collection

I would also add the testing of ultra lightweight Pellets that who uses? And almost always with poor results.

Funny thing about the ultra light pellets, 

I have shot the H&N greens (.22 10.3gr) out of my HW95 and it actually likes them. Thats 50yrds on a 5 to 10 mph windy day

When I fit a new scope I’ll go into my shed and zero it. The distance I have is 10 metres. It’s easier to fine tune at that distance. I don’t have a problem of watching videos at 10 metres, but I also really like long distance shooting with a break barrel.

Once when is was raining for a week I consistently was in the shed shooting, trying to get that one slightly larger than a pellet 5 or 10 shot group. Bloody hard with a big box gun but a lot of fun.
