When are you going to start using anodized aluminum air reservoirs instead of the blued steel cylinders on your pcp's? While your at it you can use a cylinder with a slightly larger OD for more air capacity!😉

I think the S510 would look a lot better with a matte finish anodized cylinder that matches the color of the rest of the gun. What a fingerprint magnet and it just looks out of place since the action shroud and end cap is all anodized. It is a pain to keep clean and doesn't add anything to the s510 looks wise IMO. I think the bluing looks fantastic on the spring guns like the TX200 and Pro Sport where everything is beautifully blued but for the S510 lineup it's time for a change!

I understand that's what they've always used on their guns and it would probably cost a lot to start using a different cylinder but it's only money!😄

What do you guys think? I wonder how much it would cost to have mine cerakoted? There must be cerakote color that would match? I don't care enough about it to strip my gun down immediately to get it done but maybe in the future when/if I add a regulator...




 
So AA does make alu. cylinders, but so far as I'm aware they only are on the TC (twin cylinder) models. I like the classy element it adds, however my fear was never corrosion forming on the outside, but corrosion forming on the INSIDE of the tube where I couldn't see it. *shrug* My S510 was always a real tack driver, still is, although the lack of a reg limits just how far out you'll be doing said tack driving. :( It was a great gun for its era though.

Hey Bob, did you have the US that came with a Q-tec moderator? If so do you think it worked well? I have a 30fpe .22 S510 tdr and to be honest it isn't that quiet. Fine for me but I bet most wouldn't consider it backyard friendly.

No, just the shroud. I bought a DonnyFL adapter and used a Tanto and Sumo on it......very quiet.

I didn't know they made any aluminum cylinders but have never looked into the TC model. Yes I think the s510 will always be a great gun for sure. The blued cylinder doesn't bother me really but I just think the gun would benefit (in the future) with a larger OD aluminum cylinder something like the streamline. They could regulate it and use a gauge on the end w/ fill probe like the one Huma sells and keep the original gauge where it is to read reg pressure.

Thanks, I think I might try a Tanto. I bet it will be quieter than the pringles can that Air Arms calls Q-tec😆 If you look inside the Q-tec it is so stuffed up with internals that there isn't any volume left in there. 8" long and I bet the the 5" Tanto has more space inside for the air to expand.

The new AA rifles that are regulated have a fill pressure of 250 bar / 3,626 psi so the new rifles have a better shot count than the old non regulated S510. Adding a larger reservoir and having a 250 bar fill would add even more but it seems AA is holding onto their original design. I actually prefer the blued cylinder on an AA S510 with a walnut stock. I think it looks better with that blued cylinder and the high quality walnut stock than it would with a matt aluminum cylinder and nice walnut stock. Its all personal preference really but thats what I prefer on the walnut stocked models.

I just noticed that the Galahad has a matte finish cylinder but it has a hole in it since it is regulated. If the hole is 50mm from the end of the cylinder might it work with a Huma?

I like the way the blued cylinder looks just fine but do hate the fingerprints and think I would prefer a matte finish, plus it would match the rest of the metal on the gun. I see what you guys are saying about how it matches a nice walnut stock.

I'm just whining... and you guys are supposed to agree with me lol!

How about a titanium cylinder. It doesn't have to be anodized eliminating that process. And while you're at it, why haven't you done away with that funky fill valve and twist on fill gizmo? There's an aftermarket foster fitting assembly that replaces the factory thingy that makes filling a snap. Manufacturing costs for the current parts must be pretty high. See how much money you can save??

I agree on their "T" style fill valve, a QD would be much simpler to use. I'm guessing the reason that they are so far behind some of the other manufacturers when updating their guns is because most of their sales come from the UK with its 12fpe limit and they don't care so much about a regulator? At 12fpe the s510 still shoots a pretty flat shot string and has a respectable shot count without a reg.

The t style fill valve is a snap for me. Is it really that hard for some people to slide it over the end of the fill valve and turn it 90 degrees? I think its one of the easiest and most secure methods I have used. I have rifles with qd foster valves, probes and the AA T style and I think the AA T clamp works better than any of them.

AA offers several models of the S5XX platform with regulators. The reason they didnt add regulators was the fact most buyers didnt feel they needed a regulator in the AA platforms cause they worked so good without them and I agree they dont need regulators in their hunting lines of rifles. I think people forget that the S5XX and S4XX rifles are pure hunting rifles not match rifles and they perform superbly in those roles and even hold their own shooting targets. The regulator does help smooth them out and makes an already perfect platform in my opinion better if you can truly make them better. I added a regulator to my S510 carbine cause I take some very long shots while hunting/pesting so I wanted to keep the consistency tighter from the first shot to the last. I would take an AA rifle un regulated or regulated any day for a hunting rifle used at normal distances out to say 70 or 80 yds. I dont care for the galahad but the S5XX or S4XX in their different models are some of the best rifles you can buy imho.

I agree, I have had a couple AA previously, an S400 and S510 and now the 510 tdr. I think they had a great idea with the s410 tdr but the 510 comes in a giant case (appears to be the same as the Impact case) and only gets 15 shots. So now it is a "takedown rifle" that fits in a regular size rifle case, is 41" long (the size of a full rifle) but only get's 15 shots within a 30fps spread. Don't get me wrong it's a sweet gun besides the shot count but for anyone thinking about buying one (probably nobody), don't expect a compact takedown rifle. Just think of it as an s510 with a cool stock and a third of the shot count lol. I don't care about super consistency but for $900 a 41" airgun should get more than 15 usable shots IMO

I will say that this tdr is unbelievably accurate out of the box, more than my other AA were. I think because the barrel is free floated inside the shroud/mod. It doesn't have the bushing with 2 o rings like the regular s510. The Q-tec moderator slides over the end of the barrel and screws into the shroud without making contact. It is a small gap so I'm sure any mis-alignment would really mess things up but it is technically free floated.

For sure. Still a fine gun and I think a Huma would help some with the usable shots. The s410 tdr was nice and compact with a small backpack type carry case. Granted it doesn't have a shroud but how much good is that shroud doing on my s510 tdr when the barrel sticks an inch out the front? The back vented holes at the rear of the shroud are just for looks because there is no way for the air to get back there like with the regular s510's that have baffles in the shroud. I guess the ldc is supposed to be "fixed" in place and we aren't supposed to see that but someone forgot to add the loctite to mine haha.

I'm really liking the AA S510 TDR....like you said Tweeter...its just a variation of 510 rifle.Take apart stock,but still a tad long and has to go in a rifle case. All AA quality shines but mainly a lighter streamlined 510 in another stock configuration. 

Tweeter, can a Huma reg be installed aftermarket on this s510 TDR? I see Huma offers a reg for a AA 510 model but not sure if that applys to the 510 tdr? I really want the 510tdr,loved my 410 tdr.
