Here I go again...picking a compressor

I'm looking (again) at compressors. I want to upgrade from my Alpha carette 90 I bought a few years ago. It's been a good one and I've rebuilt it once. It's still doing its job fine but now that my wife is shooting with me I have to fill my tank (66cuft 4500 tank) after each days shoot. Here lately we shoot about 4 days out of the week which is running the alpha more than I like. I would like to upgrade to a better compressor and later a larger 4500 tank. So I've narrowed my choices down to the Coltri/Nuvair or Alkin W31.. what my most important thing is I want durability and ease of access to parts here in the US.. when I rebuilt my alpha 90 i had to order them directly from china without any dealer support and that I refuse to go through again as it was a bit of a pain in the a$$..

So the owners of the Coltri/Nuvair or Alkin W31... are you happy with it ? Any problems with them? How long have you had yours and how much do you run them?

I've been looking at these two compressors for awhile researching them when ever I think about it. Now it's time to make a decision and make the leap and finally order one. I'm real interested hearing from the owners before I do so
 
I have an Alkin W31, and I love that thing! It was quite the jump up from the Yong Heng I was using before I got it (the YH was also good). I’ve only had mine a few months, but have not heard of any problems from anyone else either. Maybe pm member Humdinger, as he is very knowledgeable and was quite helpful to me in making my decision.

Thanks for your input scott1... a few questions if I may.

How often do you run your compressor a week?

What size tank do you fill and how long does it take to fill it? 

Did you get the 110v or 220v ? 

Where do you store and use it... garage/house that's environmentally controlled (heat/air conditioned)... I asked this as I use to keep mine alpha 90) in my pole barn. When it was time for its rebuild the corrosion was unreal! My guess was it was because of the high humidity that may have contributed to it. . After the rebuild I now store and use it in the spare bedroom in the house.. air conditioned in the summer, heated in the winter. That may seem a bit silly but the price we pay for them I would like it to last as long as possible.

Let me be straight up honest with you from the get go.. as I've never heard GX Pumps and a quick search you have nothing to offer me. Besides... if your not one of the reputable dealers I've done business with in the past it's not gonna happen.

I can tell you this...I bought my alpha carette from a dealer (listed here on AGN) that stood behind it until he sold it. Meaning when it came time for a service/rebuild he was useless. (A member here helped me get the parts I needed to fix it) Although I see that dealer sells one of the compressors I've listed I will never do business with him again...

I'll either be doing business with Utah airguns, AOA (as I've had good dealings with both in the past and they take care of their customers) or Nuvair directly I've never done business with Nuvair directly but have spoke with people/ members here that have had very good service with them.

I fill 2 45 minute bottles per week minimally, so under 1/2 hour per week usually. Bottles from empty were around 22 minutes, and to top off from 3000 to 4500 psi takes about 7 or so minutes. I bought my compressor through Baker Airguns, and they were great to deal with. Baker covered the first $300 in shipping, which was all but $50 and made them the best place to order from, by far. Ordering direct from Alkin would have been $300 more than I paid through Baker. Again, Baker was great to deal with, and I had my new compressor in 3 days! I have the 220v vertical W31 and couldn’t be happier! It resides in my unfinished, dehumidified basement.

@Jasonmc Love this response. I hate when folks join to ***** items as if we don’t have established standards for myriad airgun products. I recall having a similar question in the past. After reading reviews and posts on various forums I asked @bigragu for his input to the same question in the original post. His response was something to the effect of, “You’ve read of problems with the Coltri MCH-6. What problems have you found in your research about the W31?” There’s a lot of good information on the forums about these compressors. Hopefully you will encounter and review enough info to determine which is best for you. I really think when choices can be narrowed down to these two it really boils down to justification of cost. If you can afford and don’t mind spending them money, the Alkin is the way to go. @humdinger has been a wealth of knowledge on AGN when it comes to compressors. He’s also pretty responsive to inquiries.

Consider the long term ownership.

How often will you have to do scheduled maintenance and how much will it cost?
At what point will you have to do a rebuild and how much will that cost? 

I have a Coltri from Nuvair for a year now replacing our second Carette. Never again…

Mine is the Honda gas powered model as I take it to local FT matches and on multi-day hunts and fill other shooters tanks. It starts first (easy) pull almost every time. I will typically fill five to eight tanks at each match and at least that same number during a given month, so over the course of a month, at least fifteen tanks. 
It has worked flawlessly during ownership and consider it a great value.

They come outta the woodwork with their special "deals" and offerings....

Humdinger was a huge help in the past helping me get parts for my alpha carrette 90. He put me in touch with Bosun who also was a huge help getting my parts to me..

And thanks to the members here for their input on the compressors I asked about. It seems that either compressor would be a good one but the Alkin looks to be the best one for me. Now the only decision left is who to buy it from... @Scotty1 suggested Baker... I'm a few hours drive from them and have never been there... that's a good reason to go and pay them a visit in person and haul it home that day.. I've been treated very well by Baker in the past with online purchases...

Jason, I’m not sure that Baker actually stocks these compressors. It is my understanding that most dealers will simply arrange shipping directly from Alkin in N.J. That was definitely the case with my purchase. The shipping deal, for me was the deciding factor as Baker absorbed the first $300 in shipping cost. Good luck with your purchase, you will love the Alkin.

I was checking them out just a few minutes ago.. I think your right.. I'll call them hopefully tomorrow and see what they do. I would perfer to drive there ( looks to be a bit over a 4 hour drive on way) and pick it up... and a good excuse to meet/talk and look at rifles....of course!
