Other Help with a S&W 77a

I picked up a 77a the other day, and I would like to refinish the stock. Does anyone know how to remove the forearm / pump stock? There are holes on one side but not on the other. I'll post some pics as soon as I get a chance. It looks rough but it does work well.

after i looked earlier i saw no way to remove it and no posted that states how to, so i guess you will have to take the assembly off and refinish on the metal frame
now after say that i would thing you could punch them through but the chances of busting out the wood on the other side is very high and that damage you don't need and drilling a hole for the exit of the pin would be just dead luck

it is not meant to come apart. I would refinish it on the lever.

Don't know how much this will help you but I took one apart in 1978...I don't remember much EXCEPT it was a nightmare to get back together...some spring had to be compressed, took all I could do back when I was young and strong...I wouldn't recommend disassembled.

Some folks have approached the "blind forearm pins" issue this way:
Since they are roll pins, a small drill that passes through the pin can be used to drill past the wood on the blind side. Now you have the location to drill full size holes giving access to punch out the pins. Note that only the two forward pins attach the wood to the lever.

However, the easier plan would be to remove the pump assembly (one pivot pin) and keep the lever attached while re-doing the wood. It appears the stock can be removed without taking apart the main receiver, which as noted above is a pain to reassemble.

Oh...it can be done...keep us posted...77a's are interesting guns and need to be preserved. Good luck!

roll pins that is interesting and that would make it possible then
the diagram doesn't tell you or show you the type of pins they are

They are a awesome piece of American airgun history. S&W only pellet rifle. You would think Daisy would have continued the 77A when they bought the rights to S&W's airgun designs 78g, 79g Daisy making the 780 and 790 pistols.

I owned two of 'em back in the day...new in box...idiot...IDIOT....Also had a new Crosman 1400...all great pumpers...after those vanished I didn't have another airgun for 23 years.... Up to my armpits in 'em now, no pumpers though. Glad to see the 77a's being limelighted.
