I have a Benjamin Bulldog and I’m looking for a pellet to hunt with,Texas law says it must be 150 grain or bigger,Do you have any recommendation . Thanks for your help
If your bulldog is bone stock you might be pushing those heavy slugs a bit too slow. Probably a bit under 700 FPS. If you want to up the power you can contact Brian at Veradium Air. He can get those bulldogs up to 300 fpe compared to 200 fpe stock
Texas law actually does not say 150gr. Any grain as long as you can make 215 fpe at the muzzle. 30 caliber minimum, so your 357 bulldog just needs a slug that can make 215 fpe. If you have a 30 caliber that can make 215 fpe that can be used as well.
I have a Pitbull Unleased Benjamin Bulldog that shoot Nielsen 142 grain boat tails great. Very accurate with the first shot velocity reaching as high as 998 fps for 314 fpe. I'm going to try the 178 grain boat tails next. Hopefully I can tune the hammer spring to get between 925 to 950 fps.
You can buy a custom hammer spring from pitbull airguns that should give you bump in power if you have a stock gun.
If you really want to increase the power you need to have the transfer and barrel ports opened up. Lots of videos from Pitbull Airguns youtube channel show you how to do it.
Also Mr. Honns has videos show the modifications he did himself.
Pre-charged pneumatic air guns must fire a projectile of at least 30 caliber in diameter and at least 150 grains in weight with a minimum muzzle velocity of 800 feet per second or any combination of bullet weight and muzzle velocity that produces muzzle energy of at least 215 foot pounds of energy.
Just buy the Pitbull lever, Spring and widen the ports,, if you want the cheapest route. If you keep the regular tube you have 3 shots at 250fpe with a OEM tube. If you get the extension you will be at 5 shots. I have mine at approx. 250 fpe with 110grain at 1000fps for five shots. I can get 300fpe with 15gr.
