HELP! Too many choices and need assistance with purchase please. My head hurts.

I can't think of a new rifle other than the Veteran Long that seems to satisfy your requirements. The only FX rifle I would recommend is the Royale 500, but it would not offer the same power advantage. The Vet is simply a tank, reliable, accurate, easy to maintain, great trigger. A Red Wolf HP would fill the bill, but it's expensive. A used RAW HM1000X would be good too.

Like others here at the nation I have a taipan veteran in 22 cal and FX wildcat in 25 caliber the taipan seems to be the most popular one as of late but the FX Wildcat it's an excellent platform beautiful Shootin every time I go out shooting I always seem to pick up that Wildcat now with all the interchangeable barrels and caliber changes if you got yourself a wildcat you be able to change it all around and do many many many things with it with it good luck safe shooting stay safe HYNZIE 4s

I want to comment on the rear cocking mechanism for the Taipan. I have been reading posts where some people wouldn’t own one because of that. That is their opinion and I respect it. If that is truly a drawback for them they need to look at other rifles. I was skeptical myself until about a month ago when I received the one I ordered. This is an extremely precise mechanism that Taipan is using. It reminds me of cocking a S&W revolver, extremely smooth and consistent. It doesn’t feel mushy or gritty, it’s really hard for me explain it but I am extremely happy with it. I do some bench shooting and also hunt with it and don’t have any issues at all with the lever being in the rear. Mine is the .22 long version with a power plenum and I can turn it up to 48 FPE and that’s without any internal mods done. Also, you will not find a better trigger in a bull pup unless you buy a Daystate Pulsar with the electronic trigger. I own two of the Pulsars and while the trigger is better, the Taipan has a much better feeling action to me.

Dreamline classic 30 cal I just got one a bit back and like it is light weight good accuracy and fairly quiet as I put 0 DB can on it. I also have uragan but prefer walking/hunting with the dreamline

I would also second the Dreamline. Personally I prefer the Dreamline lite, or Tactical, but they are great guns, phenomenally accurate, generally just perfect from the factory and usually quite available. People complain about FX, but in my experience the 5 I have had have been just about perfect. Of course, it is possible to completely screw them up if you are not careful and go about changing every setting without paying attention or knowing what you are doing. The flip side is that they ARE adjustable if you want to change calibers, pellets, etc.

Cannonball, I agree. A lot of folks seem to dismiss the Veteran because of the rear cocking, but have never tried it. Sure, I admit a lever farther forward is handier, but what, really, is the downside to the rear lever. Maybe it takes one second longer to cock, but I'm retired and my time is plentiful and cheap! I prefer the direct acting, rear design because it is part of one of the Veteran's true strengths, simplicity. When it comes to the Veteran, my standard testimonial is; I don't like bull pups, but I really like the Veteran!

Cannonball,

Is that the "coffee" lam? I wish it had been available when I bought mine.

Guess I gotta get a Standard too

Johnny, mine is the gray laminate. I also wanted the coffee when I ordered but Talon Tunes only had gray and green. I didn’t want to wait since these sell out quickly and it seems everything air gun related is getting harder to come by lately. I like mine so much I will eventually order a short and will make sure it has the coffee stock.

Another question and thank you again for all your help thus far. With a veteran versus the wildcat Mark two or Mark three I don’t even know which Mark anymore, or even some of the other ones that were mentioned, are they all comparable power wise? Will any of them have the knockdown power at 80 yards for a woodchuck or is that out of the question?

I went with the beech cuz there was no coffee. Phenomenal design and machining... it seems quite 'bulletproof'.

You must first decide if coming from a traditional rifle, you can convince yourself to like a bullpup. Bullpups were designed for close quarter combat. Us crazy air gunners, with our scopes mounted way too high over the bores axis are convincing ourselves that we found long range gold. They are not. Every one of us could shoot much better with a traditional rifle but we adapt because some of these bullpups are good compact guns. I have some awesome bullpups but my easiest gun to shoot accurately and the one I shoot the most is a regulated Kral Jumbo. When you spend months behind a bullpup then switch back to a rifle it’s like wow, this is so easy and comfortable. Don’t get caught up in the hype, do what’s right for you. Or own 5+ guns. Then it’s all good.

Sound advice from a different prospective! Wish I could try before I buy but unfortunately I don't have that option. Dumb question, what makes a bullpup? Is it the overall length or style of the stock? You can tell I'm new to this sport/hobby/obsession but what I do know is it snowballs fast! Thanks!
