Squirrels, marmots and other vermin live both in the wild woods and around people. Piles of trash, in and around farm fields and areas where livestock are fed and where they are kept (pasture area) will be the prime locations to search out. I don't know the climate and vegitation of your area, so it is hard to give you specific advice.
Do you have dairy farms or livestock feeding farms in your area? Do you have conifer or decidious Forrest?

Anywhere there is food.
Pecan orchards.
City Parks.
City folks putting out bird feeders. ( and then they complain about squirrels)
Put up some feeders and provide some prebuilt squirrel houses ( to protect them and their young from predators )
Soon you will have to buy 8-10 pcp's to control the population.
