My research is pointing me towards a springer...One cock and done seems good to me...Not unlimited funds but I want quality..So far from what I've read the HW97 , TX200 , and the RWS 54 are contenders.. Could I get you guys opinions?

Help me pick my first Air Rifle since being a kid in the woods (first post)

You will not find better quality than the TX200. My TX is very accurate and I can't think of any other springer I would put over this rifle. Other rifles may shoot as good but I just like the looks of the TX. The TX is heavy, but i'm 67 and it's not a problem for me. Good luck on your purchase.

Thank you mrjohns... I'm 57 and just realized I can shoot a air rifle inside...Voila .. City shooting.. I'm shooting a crosman 1400 now and it's a bit erratic.

So are you going to be shooting mostly indoors, or do you plan to take it outside the city somewhere too?
If indoors, what is the maximum range you'll shoot it at?
It makes a big difference in the rifle selection. Also consider pistols, if you don't have a long range to shoot at.
I'll give more specialized recommendations once I know the answers to the above.

For indoor, shooting up to 30 yards, considder an HW30S, or if you can get your hands on one, a FWB 300S. Of all the springers I've owned over the pas 30+ years, these are the ones I've had (and still have) the most fun with. The FWB is by far the best, bar none!

+1 with Jonnes on the FWB . But I like the idea of a one stroke pneumatic gun also . If you want a really good quality gun you pretty much start at the 300$ mark and go up ...That'll take the Hatsans, Crosmans , and Gamos out of the equation .
From there you can get really good quality and reliability ! HW30 is a gun Every Airgunner should own at least once ! But my personal advice ( and I'm a self confessed moron ) is stay away from anything with the word " Magnum " attached to it !!! Run from that word like it was a high school pregnancy scare !

Look on springer section and you will see one of my post by FWB mini gets a face lift. There's pictures of several there . They are no longer in production . But they are like old Chevy Impala's... Plenty still around

For shooting mostly at ranges of 30 yards or less I'd go with the hw30/R7 in .177.
For distances out to 50 yards and beyond, with some hunting duty, I'd go with the tx200 in .177.
Quality springers are awesome. Great accuracy, reliability and longevity with plenty of power for most needs.

1) I had a Pumpmaster, probably 100 pellets, and nearly infinite BBs.
2) My quarry was any small animal that moved. Usually blackbirds, robins, goldfinches, and sparrows. Occasionally, a long range, hassling shot on a goose.
3) Open sights
4) Anything within 10-20 yards of me was in mortal danger.
5) No thinking much about trajectories.
6) No thinking much about ammo choices; it was limited to what Walmart had.
7) No thinking about upgrading, since to me, the Pumpmaster was a real powerhouse. (655 fps?! Wow! That will go right through an empty milk jug. most of the time. with a BB.)
Nowadays, with the internet, we overthink things. Too many choices just blows our minds.
