Help me pick a 177

Gauntlet .177 with donnyfl short shroud and tatsu. This paired w aa 10.3's or the redesigned 13.34's yields some amazing accuracy for an entry level platform let alone any pcp! This group was shot the day i got the donnyfl short shroud and tatsu and installed it... Went out back and shot this 5 shot @ 51 yards w the aa 10.3's!

The Fortitude or Discovery can be very quiet with a slip on TKO LDC. I love my .177 & .22 Discoveries for their very lightweight feel but yet solid enough to not feel like a toy.

If I were you I’d go for either a Marauder or Marauder FT with LW barrel & regulated. You’d get a ton of regulated shots. Don’t know what pellet & power you want but a Marauder or Discovery .177 can send the JSB Monster 13.43 with good power & accuracy. Great accuracy even.

JMO but you asked. If I knew exactly what your needs, expectations are I could be more specific in helping.

Quick look at AOA and PA netted only the Fortitude2 and Gamo Urban that I would consider worthy in the light/inexpensive class. S200 is a MUCH nicer experience but a bit more money. The Fortitude2 ticks all your boxes but the trigger would be my only gripe. Looks like they come with a shroud now. Not sure what the Urban's trigger is like. I personally don't like the poor safety margin designed into the low end SPA guns, so I would never recommend one myself. .. though they may be good in other aspects. The Liberty seems like a great rifle, though , but a good bit heavier than the Fortitude2.

You've probably seen, a very good, light pcp isn't inexpensive .

I found out that like pretty much anything,, you get what you pay for, and sometimes you get a gem in the rough paying less, and many times not. I recently purchased a Weihrauch HW110ST in .177 and so far I'm very happy with its' performance, 50+ shots per fill, accurate with 8-10gr ammo at 40-50yd range.

I was being very selective in my search of rifles, wanted a side-lever repeater, had to be quiet, quality reputation as well as accuracy reviews and it had to "look" like a rifle (don't care for forward bottle guns)….just a personal preference. There's quite a few out there that fell into my criteria, but when I saw an AOA special offer in the HW110 I jumped on it. There are lighter weight guns available but I shoot mostly rested so weight didn't factor in so much for me, the 110 has great balance and is very easy to shoulder and shoot.

Discovering a renewed interest in air guns later in life has taught me to avoid frustrations and if you are financially fortunate enough to afford quality, pay the price and be happy.👍

Keyman, inexpensive is relative. What’s inexpensive for me, may not be for you, follow. So, a price range may be a better parameter.

I have seen others on the forum rave about the Bantam unregulated in .177. Lots of shots and very accurate. I had a .22 Compatto and was very accurate indeed. Used, if you can find one, can be gotten for a fair price.

Going back to your original post, what comes to my mind is a Benjamin Maximus with a TKO moderator. Given the base price of the Maximus and the reasonable price of the TKO you should be able to come in just under/at $300 for the set. It's a single shot (you didn't indicate whether that's a deal-breaker) set up but the Maximus platform is the first to have benefited from Crosman's new barrel manufacturing process - and those barrels are winners! Light, accurate, tough, and easy to work with. Something else for your pot'o'ideas.

I just ordered and FX Royale 400, and it might be of interest to you. Currently, the Crown, Boss, and other newer FX rifles with more bells and whistles are getting a lot more discussion. In fact, many dealers don't stock the Royale. I'm getting a 400 in .22, synthetic, with plans to use it as my woods squirrel rifle. It has the original smooth twist barrel, so no sleeve/liner/shroud assembly. The simplicity appeals to me, and I've been told by several folks that they are accurate, reliable rifles and, unlike the Smooth Twist X liners, the barrel generally requires only very infrequent cleaning. There are lots of good rifles out there and, I agree that you generally get what you pay for.

I own impact 25 , marauder 22,cricket 25, wildcat 22, p15 25. So i have been around the block. Thanks for all the advice. Weight is a no go for me. That leaves out gauntlet, marauder. Seen too much with maximus. Fortitude loud but you can fix that.

1 piece of advice that must be considered, you get what you pay for! As you can see i pretty much got that figured out. I use the P15 10 to 30 critter shooting. The AA s410, 510 hmmmm.

I'm just thinking. Going to Utah next month and will be going to other meets and swaps. I'm going to sell or swap my Impact. The cricket will do everything the impact does snd a much simpler gun.

Airgun show ( swap & meets right ?) would be THE way to go. Personally still favor the bolt action 16mm shrouded- and with NO safety- in .177, as quite or better than a Marauder and the trigger that breaks like glass. Should be in the $400 range. Weight is a huige medicval concern for me but can still use the AA.

Had a Maximus , horrible trigger ( just awful , could hurt the arthritic) which responds well to all 22xx tips. LIGHT weight yet balanced and the only super light I felt that way abouit. Grouped flawlessly period. Did I say grouped flawlessly period? Might have been the rare "golden barrel" I dont know but I will buy another.

the 1720T makes an outstanding carbine , maybe a bit top heavy unless you've a very light scope.

Hit the shows! And do NOT drive past an FT shoot. No shortage of very good used .177's at most any club.
