I don't own a Db meter but based on late evening shooting when there is no ambient noise, Wrap scotch brite on the inside not the outside LOL!

I don't own the Tatsu or Shogun specifically and if you can send pictures of them disassembled it would be helpful but typically like the Emperor I had modded that and the Sumo too. Scotchbrite seems to be a good sound dampening material where others may prefer to shoose foam.

If you PM me and cover round trip flat rate priority mail insured shipping I can send you an Emperor, HW, Hogan Decimeter LDCs which I think you may find interesting to test and perhaps couple others worthwhile in you quest for quiet comparison that you have not mentioned.

I have a lot of crap LDCs too which are not worth trying out because they are TOTAL JUNK and only good for 10 meter or Crosman Co2 low power guns.

Just so you know, the LDCs do not necessarily quiet everything across the board, just because a Tatsu can work well on one may not hold true when mounted onto a different gun. You have to try them all to get the quietest one to use for that particular gun only.

You are so right... I too have found that what is quieter on one rifle may not be the quieter one on another rifle. So, it does certainly seem that how a moderator performs is quite dependent on what rifle it is mounted to! As you say, you've got to try them all to find the best for that rifle!

I opened my Tatsu and there is a fabric wrap of some sort around a screen, which surrounds the baffles. There really isn't any more room in there, between the existing "wrap" and the inside of the tube... for any more material.

I just ordered another Huggett Snipe. While the Magna is no doubt very effective, there is a definite limit as to how much weight and size I want hanging off the front of my rifles. And, I've found that the Huggett Snipe quiets down my Bantam Sniper .22 and Red Wolf .22HP extremely well for my backyard purposes.

For me, it seems that the Huggett Snipe is the "Goldilocks" choice as it is not too big, not too small, not too heavy, but it works very well! So, that's why I've got another one on order. It will take the place of the Shogun that presently resides on my Red Wolf .22 HP. The Shogun is comparably effective to the Snipe on my RW, but is twice the size (in volume) and not far from being twice as heavy. So, for my needs, and preferring not to have a monster-size LDC on the end of my already long RW .22HP, the Huggett Snipe is just the ticket.

I use a Sound Level Meter app in my iPhone to read the levels of my moderators. It wouldn't be suitable for a "professional" measurement of SPL, but it quite well does the job of giving an approximate difference between various moderators being fired. I wouldn't rely on it for precise "absolute" db measurements, but for "relative" db measurements comparing one moderator to another, it does what I need it to do reasonably well for personal use.

OH MAN You got a REDWOLF??? I have NO IDEA why you just didn't finish it up with a FULL HUGGETT SHROUD LDC SYSTEM!!!

My first Airwolf I threaded the Snipe and it was quiet no doubt, then my second one was ordered with the Huggett Shroud LDC System

specific for that gun and BOY was it SHOCKINGLY MUCH QUIETER!!! The thing is almost DEAD SILENT!

I did notice the Snipe adversely affected the accuracy on the first Airwolf and just couldn't live with the factory Airstream FYI...

Remove the screen and the OEM DonnyFL material and wrap it with scotchbrite and add some lube to it then reinstall.

If you do it dry it won't be as quiet because the lube will act as a sound deadening enhancer.

You can take my LDC 101 class after you are done with LDC 100.

You want to make the inside of your LDC like a plush fully velvet interior of a car from the 70s and 80s.

You use medium plush felt material from a craft and hobby shop and cut discs and make holes to glue onto the inside baffles.

I tried the self adhesive ones which don't last and shift with enough use so I can't recommend using those.

If your barrel is concentric then you can make small holes, smaller than the DonnyFL baffle holes to make it quieter.

Worth a try... no screen either? And lube (like silicon grease?) all over the surface of the Scotch Brite material that is in contact with the outer tube?

I didn't realize that Huggett made a shroud & LDC for the Red Wolf. I probably wouldn't spend the money, though, as I find that the carbon fiber shroud on the RW with the Huggett Snipe is plenty quiet for my needs.

No screen but don't use silicone, it has to be some kind of pellet lube such as Slick 1 Lube or FP10 or similar because

at first I ran them dry and noticed it got quieter after shooting lubed pellets over time and noticed the scotchbrite saturated

with the pellet lube did the trick. Same principle goes for powderburner cans when they mention wet or lubed quieter.

OK... I've got a lot of FP-10, as it's all I use on my rifles, shotguns, pistols, and revolvers (all powder burners). Great stuff. I wasn't sure if it would be good with air rifles.

He is talking about a mod someone did. You remove the wrap material inside the Donny and replace it with a different material. I have found that on my Sumo, Tatsu and Tanto, nothing is better than it came stock. The new RED material they are using is about as good as it gets.

And when comparing one mod to the next, use a dB meter. Download one for your phone if you don't have one. Sometimes a change in pitch or tone seems quieter, but it isn't. But dB readings don't lie. And keep in mind that for every 1 dB, the sound is 2x as loud, or 1/2 as loud depending on which way the numbers go.
