Newbie to the Airgun world. Been an avid hunter/shooter all my life but never owned a quality air rifle. Time to remedy that. Just joined this forum and have to say the information on here is staggering. I see hours of research in my future!

So far I think I’m headed for a PCP bullpup. Budget will be $1K-ish. Mostly target shooting and some backyard pest control. Would like something that will shoot well out of the box but could eventually be improved with some light tinkering….because I just can’t help myself.

I’ve started reading other discussions and posts but if there is any advice to shorten the search I would appreciate it.

Most of the adjustability of rifles 2-3 times as expensive. Accurate to my 45yard limit.
.25 could use a little larger transfer port but regulator setting can make up for that, fewer shots per fill.

FX Bobcat or Wildcat (used)
Bobcat, if you can find one, is an amazing rifle. A little bigger than the usual bullpup. Incredibly accurate and simple mechanically. Wildcat is the current generation with more adjustments.

While not bullpup, not very long
AirForce Talon or its longer brethren Condor
Don't be put off by single shot. Loads quickly.
Probably the simplest gun mechanically
Can be upgraded easily and quite often in just minutes
Change from 12" barrel .22 to 19" barrel .25 in 10 minutes.
Add a regulator and high flow valve 5 minutes
Change to heavy spring and hammer 10 minutes.

Can be hand pumped but a compressor is recommended

Welcome to Airgun Nation. I suggest checking out the Umarex Notos. Easy on the budget, hand pump friendly and upgradable. Air Venturi is coming out with their own version, I would check that out also. Whole package under $1k will get the carbine, hand pump, optics, pellets, rifle case, Patch Worm and a range bag to carry all your newly acquired accoutrements.

Always buy quality pellets. They will shoot better. Watch some reviews and make sure to buy that ammo. Most places have deals on pellets. Buy them in bulk, you are going to need them.

Set a budget!

Welcome the best Forum on the web, air gun related or not. There's tons of knowledge here by mostly friendly folks.
Your price range might include a few new rifles, but there are plenty of used rifles as well. Just do your homework on the seller if here on AGN, or anywhere else for that matter.
Simplicity is always a good thing for the newbs. You may wish to look at a used FX Streamline or Crown, they are simple and easy to work on. The Streamline seems to be the basis for the Crown platform but may not have as many parts available now. The Crown, however, is still made and has a large following, so parts are likely available for some time.
Used Crowns can be had in your approximate price range too.
Of course, any and all other suggestions as above are worth investigating as well.

100% recommend buying used. Make your money go further. I took this advice years ago and it worked out nicely for me when I moved up to a high end Airgun from my first PCP which was a Airforce Talon SS in 22 caliber. Had it 18 years. Was fantastic. If tuning is remotely confusing start simple. Get something like an RTI P2 performance where you just set regulator pressure to get desired pellet speed and hammer spring to open and close … simple. This is just an example. Lots of adjustments for tuning can become confusing and get you lost just starting out. But learning quickly is fun too, some guys with mechanical minds have no issues and just pick up highly tunable Airguns and just go for it and never look back. lol.
