Hello shooters

What's up everyone! I just joined. I'm sure my story is similar to others. I bought a Gamo Shadow Whisper .177 at Wal-Mart 5 years ago. I handed down my 2 Daisy pump bb guns to my twins. It was time to shoot! Well the sights were garbage and I couldn't hit anything. I put the gamo away and forgot about it.
I am a firefighter, and moved to a new station that someone had a similar break barrel and metal targets. I shot it pretty well. So, I dusted off the gamo. I decided to upgrade the sights. I went with a 11 dovetail to 20 picatinny adapter and a pinty red dot. Cheapest I could find on Amazon. 🤣
Set up the red dot and sighted it in at 25m. Took it to work and did good with it. Everyone took turns. Another FF asked how much the red dot and rail were. He was surprised that it was under 30$. He said send him the link and that he was bringing his springer next shift. He has been trying to remove pests from his yard without any luck.
The pellet game has been interesting. Right now I'm on the Stoeg waddcutters 7.48 and they are performing well. I am ready to move up to a 10+gr and get ready for small game.
I've been looking up info in here for a couple of days. I've already learned so much. Artillery method! Thank you very much! I haven't even tried it yet but it makes so much sense. Triggers. Probably not going to do anything else to the gamo. Should be good for a couple of seasons and plenty of plinking. I will be saving up for a .22 airgun. I'm not sure what style or brand but, well under 1k. I think i might start hitting pawn shops and see what's out there.
That's my story. I look forward to hearing from y'all!

Welcome to the rabbit hole where all your money disappears into. LOL. Do you firefighters fill your own breathing tanks at work. If so it would be a easy jump into pcp's with a few good options to begin with under $300. If you go the used route from a pawn shop you will not know if you are buying a broke gun in need of repair or what. Buy new with a warranty from someone with a good return policy. Enjoy the ride and have fun. Mark

You don't know what you've done if you can get scbas filled, or blame the empty ones on extracation practice with airbags or something. You should get into the world of pcps before you spend any more money on a springer or it's accessories 😂 because you're going to end up there..... If you're here now.

Welcome to the most rewarding shooting genre I've participated in and my most long term one.

We have a compressor and cascade system. 300 is very reasonable. Thanks

Oh yeah, don't take all of the airgun world and forum dogma as gospel. Just have fun doing what you enjoy. That said the pcp world has my rimfires in mothballs. If i ever give you an opinion it's based on experience, not just regurgitate dogma. Welcome to our little world of geekery.

If you're on a cascade with a compressor, I take it your station isn't big city. That's pretty rad. The 100 foot aerial let me know that your job wasn't a good one for me.

@Snead360 - Welcome to Airgun Nation. Having access to SCBA equipment might make you lean towards a PCP. Beware, the PCP rabbit hole is deep and can get expensive really quickly. Watch a bunch of videos on youtube and budget accordingly.

Take a look at the Benjamin Marauder .22 for your first PCP rifle. Probably the best budget PCP out there. Been around for ever and American made. Well built and powerful. There are tons of youtube videos on the rifle and pistol versions.

Springers are much easier on the budget. Plus there are trigger upgrades available to improve your accuracy.

Pellet wise I suggest purchasing quality pellets. They really help with accuracy. JSB 8.44 and 10.3's are great pellets and will usually work in most air rifles. Twenty-two caliber best pellets are still the JSB 16 and 18's are bench mark and worth the cost.

I suggest reading the forum rules and guidelines. Once a user is "established" and has made at least 10 quality posts they are granted access to the Member Classifieds. There are usually some really good deals there.

Have fun and enjoy the forums. They are a great place to hang out and scammers are quickly weeded out by the admins. Some of these guys have forgotten more about pellet rifles than I will ever know.
