Hello guys,

I just learned about PCP air guns and I'm really excited to get into the hobby! I'm torn between getting the 30 caliber Western Airguns SideWinder or perhaps the LCS SK-19 for my first one. I have some nasty turkey vultures on my property that are harassing my dog and kids, and I also plan to do some small to mid-size game hunting.

Although I have a pretty big yard with a range set up, I'll need a moderator (perhaps a DonnyFL) to avoid annoying my neighbors. I've run some decibel calculations, but I'm not sure if the SideWinder or SK-19 can be quiet enough with a Ronin, for instance.

I have a lot to learn though. I need a compressor, tanks, scope/laser, as well as learning how to clean and maintain the gun.

My budget is approx. $6,000 to get going initially, although I'm sure I'll be building up a serious collection over time.

In the meantime, I ordered a Barra 400e to do some shooting with my dad this weekend.

The Patch Worm works great to maintain your bore’s cleanliness.

The Yong Heng compressor ($250) is a good entry level compressor to start with.

Ha yep, I figured it's about time to find another hobby to become obsessed with and drive my wife crazy. (headphones and high powered flashlights were the last 2...)

Thanks also for the compressor advice. I'm still trying to figure this all out, however I'm thinking of getting a large, high end tank (like 100 cub foot), maybe a higher end compressor than the one you mentioned, and a portable bottle to toss in my backpack since the 9mm Leshiy 2 only gets 10-16 shots on a fill.

You have $6,000 to spend on a rifle and optic - what would you get and why?

Hi AG I'm curious to see what you would choose if you had to 6k on a rifle and optic setup. Also specify what you are doing with it, Targets Competing in shootouts Plinking Hunting Everything?

Wow, what a budget… Let the turkey vultures alone, my Jack Russell, Riley goes nuts when they fly over the property. First time I hear of them “harassing” kids. Don’t, I repeat “don’t” buy a .30 as your first PCP. Slow your roll and you may find less is more. Good luck in your endeavor.

44 . . . if you are looking for a black rifle in .30 to start out with you can't find a better rifle than the AAA Evol. Truly a rifle you can hand down through generations. If you change your mind on calibers, you can always downsize to the .22 EVOL mini


I bought the traditional walnut-stocked Paradigm in .30

Welcome. Good advice to be had here. Do yourself a favor and pay attention to the experts.
I am still a new guy here. Only have 3 PCPs now.
It appears from your comments you are not afraid to spend. Good thing. Quality cost more.
Slow down, and ask good questions.
My advice would be to purchase quality right off the bat if you have the monetary resources to do so.
I started with a Daystate and have not regretted it. Next came a BRK sniper and just recently a Western Bushbuck in .45 cal.
There is lots to spend money on, so have fun and enjoy the journey.
