Hello Lefties

I am right handed but left eye dominant. One of my uncles checked me before I went bird hunting with him and he said to use my left shoulder so that is what I do to this day. It would be hard to take a quick shot using my right eye. At this point nearly impossible.

I have a left handed 30-06 and a left handed 22lr and I like them. But on airguns I prefer to work the action with my right hand. I moved my Prod to the left and then moved it back. My Caiman X had it's lever on the left when it arrived and I moved it to the right. I tried an Impact once and couldn't see through the scope. My Mossberg shotgun throws the empties past my face but I don't see them. I am looking downfield. But I so not want the magazine of the gun in my face. Long guns I can shoot but I like bullpups. I like my Caiman but I really like my P35s and Bullshark. You cannot move the lever to the left on these SPA guns (by any reasonable methods, at least) but that does not bother me. Their stock magazines do not protrude from either side. The Carm extra capacity magazine I have sticks out about 3/4 inch into my face and I hate it. I do not use it. Maple makes a extra capacity magazine for P35s/Bullsharks that protrudes on the left. I have one (so far) and love it. I am talking to Bigair (do I have the name right? the guy in Kansas) about making one. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I prefer scopes with the illumination switch on the top at the rear. When it is near the parallax knob it is hard to reach and about impossible to see without taking the stock off my shoulder. I also would rather have the parallax be on the front of the scope where you rotate the whole end of the scope. Much easier to do for me.

The P35 safety is a feel thing for me. A tiny little button above the trigger. I'm used to it but it is not lefty friendly.

I do not like the very thin barrel of FX airguns but I refuse to buy any airgun that sticks a huge magazine right into my face. Not happening. SPA guns seem to be in general at least pretty lefty friendly. The big Zellos magazine is right in the middle of the gun. Protrudes the same on both sides I think.

My arms are so long and my hands are so big nothing fits me and I make my own stocks. But I can't fix a magazine in my face.
Just realized you mentioned this (Right handed/Left Eye). I'm introducing my daughter (8 yrs old). Right now just a 10 pump, Umarex. She's right handed and I kept catching her closing her right eye and leaning over. The guns too big but we're making it work. It hasn't even occurred to me she could be left eye.
We checked a few times and sure enough. Left Eye dominant. Now I'm not sure what to do? She's so young we have the advantage that she doesn't have to unlearn anything and we can get her started off correctly.
Only problem is what correctly is 😆?
I'm thinking it's easier to learn using the left hands easier than learning right eyed.
Would you agree with that? I hate that she'll then suffer with the rest of us but at least she'll be sharp.

Any thoughts?
Thanks

My M8 is a funny leftie. It is just for writing, anything else and he is a rightie.
Not as far right as i am, some times i wonder how i am able to walk CUZ really that left leg i could barely hit a sucker ball if i tried.
Same go for the hands, i can thread a needle with the right but the left i can barely hit a old fashioned big keyhole.

Political,,,,,, well i am way outside the known spectra, i like to say i am above it all CUZ sure as hell not left or right.

Right handed, left eye dominant. I got used to shooting the Taipan Vet 1 with the charging handle in my left check.. I've since moved on tho the RTI P-2 Basic which can orient the mag either from the left or right. That's really nice for the lefties! Now only if the scope manufacturers could offer focusing on the right side of the scope tube (but Im not holding my breath:p)

Shoot and throw left handed everything else is right handed. My grandfather was also left hand/left eye dominant due to a childhood accident. He was a match shooter and hunter. I learned to shoot left handed in a right handed world and adjusted just like he did. In my opinion it was easier to adjust to the right hand firearms since left handed ones are very rarely available. The only concession that I've made is to swap the mag release on my main pistol.

As a left eyed dominant shooter (a rightie on everything else) from a left hand mother, I say let her shoot as a leftie. I never thought twice about it, even shooting mainly right-hand guns all my life. It's not a problem.

My Dad noticed me doing same thing when I was 7. Luckily our optometrist was a hunter as well and said I should only shoot left handed especially at such a young age as it would be an easy transition. Great advice. Many years of solid wing and rifle shooting. Less selection of guns for sure but i can shoot most right handed guns if their isn’t cast in the stock or cheek pad on it.

Hello to all the lefties out there. I just had a few thoughts and questions. I have always been VERY left handed and even moreso extremely left eye dominant. I'm always pointing out to my wife the many ways this world is right handed.
When it comes to shooting, this presents many problems. The worst is transitional guns ejecting hot brass in the face but as far as airguns...
Aside from traditional style stocks shaped for right handed, I haven't really run into too much i couldn't adjust to.
I guess the biggest is the right side lever, non changeable on most. For this, bench shooting I mostly prefer. Hand stays on grip/trigger while my right hand cycles.
The most inconvenient is generally the safety. I'm always reaching over for that. Often I've considered trying to shoot right handed but any try is quickly halted by my eyes inability to work that way.
Just curious what any others out there think?

Weihrauch rifles have ambidextrous stocks now and the safety button has always been on the left hand side of the rifle. I have a couple now and the stock rifle stocks are quite comfortable for a lefty. The rekord trigger is perfect and they make German "snick" noises. Very Pavlovian.

The uncle that tested my eye dominance was getting me and my brother ready to go bird hunting (quail). I cannot imagine trying to do that with the non dominant eye. The same uncle had some bolt action 410s for us to use and I could do that right handed but shooting from my left shoulder. One of my shotguns today is a Mossberg pump that is right handed. It throws empties right across my face and I do not see them. Safety is on top, totally usable for me (the other is a double barrel that is even better).

I would not fight the eye dominance. I think the only way to use the non-dominant eye will be to close the dominant and I think it is better to shoot both eyes open, I even do this from the bench and use my right eye to check the wind flags. It does not distract from using the dominant eye on the scope, it is just a shift of focus mentally. Left shoulder shooting requires more thought on gun selection but there are still a lot of choices. One of the reasons I really like the SPA bullpups is they have flush magazines usable for those using either shoulder. There are guns I will probably never own due to "mag in the face" design (is FX deaf or just willing to give up the left shoulder market?) but there are lots of others of equal or greater desirability to me.
