Hello Lefties

Hello to all the lefties out there. I just had a few thoughts and questions. I have always been VERY left handed and even moreso extremely left eye dominant. I'm always pointing out to my wife the many ways this world is right handed.
When it comes to shooting, this presents many problems. The worst is transitional guns ejecting hot brass in the face but as far as airguns...
Aside from traditional style stocks shaped for right handed, I haven't really run into too much i couldn't adjust to.
I guess the biggest is the right side lever, non changeable on most. For this, bench shooting I mostly prefer. Hand stays on grip/trigger while my right hand cycles.
The most inconvenient is generally the safety. I'm always reaching over for that. Often I've considered trying to shoot right handed but any try is quickly halted by my eyes inability to work that way.
Just curious what any others out there think?

Southpaw myself, but grew up with all things modeled and instructed from the right hand side. I play golf and hit baseballs right hand. Racquet sports are left.

Yes, I can shoot right side, but it is not comfortable. I don't find a mid lever right hand actions to be burdensome, in fact that is my most preferred setup.

I do have a Marauder that I swapped the bolt to left hand. I really did not like that. The rear bolt is a deal breaker for me, now

All the bolt guns I have ever shot have been right side. I guess I have been brainwashed to shooting right hand actions. bench or hunt shooting, i break from the stock every shot. I do not speed shoot, ever. No interest in missing targets quickly.

I agree, the shape of the stock is most important for a comfortable fit. My bullpups and my traditional rifles all have boring, symmetrical shape stocks. The world was not made for me, that's OK. I am doing pretty good, anyway.

You have to look harder as a lefty. All set up for lefty.

Yeah, us lefties are living in a right-handed world. I'm seeing all these cool guns and just bummed out how I can't really use them as they're set up to be shot righty. I'm not going to spend a lot of money on something that's not going to be 100% comfortable to shoot. That said:

Look into Airmaks Katran and Krait. The safety and side-levers can be swapped to the other side. As a lefty I LOVE my Katran with the safety on the right for my thumb and the lever on the left.

I don't have any experience with the Krait, my only concern with that platform is if the magazine gets in the way on the chin and that the mags are pretty thin only allowing 9mm - or somewheres around there - length projectiles. If they could make the magazine able to be pushed in from either side, even if that meant making separate mags specifically for inserting on the left side so they're not sticking out on the right, and made them able to take longer projectiles, I'd be picking one up right now. I'd love to be able to shoot a .22 with these boat tails that have been coming out but the krait can't accept those as they're too long.

You could also look into the Umarex Notos. It's incredibly customizable with a lot of support with all kinds of things. My favorite accessory I've bought for it is an aluminum side lever to replace the stock one. I love this gun, it's my favorite. I just don't use it much as I want to be able to humanely take out the porcupines I find in the woods.

I am right handed but left eye dominant. One of my uncles checked me before I went bird hunting with him and he said to use my left shoulder so that is what I do to this day. It would be hard to take a quick shot using my right eye. At this point nearly impossible.

I have a left handed 30-06 and a left handed 22lr and I like them. But on airguns I prefer to work the action with my right hand. I moved my Prod to the left and then moved it back. My Caiman X had it's lever on the left when it arrived and I moved it to the right. I tried an Impact once and couldn't see through the scope. My Mossberg shotgun throws the empties past my face but I don't see them. I am looking downfield. But I so not want the magazine of the gun in my face. Long guns I can shoot but I like bullpups. I like my Caiman but I really like my P35s and Bullshark. You cannot move the lever to the left on these SPA guns (by any reasonable methods, at least) but that does not bother me. Their stock magazines do not protrude from either side. The Carm extra capacity magazine I have sticks out about 3/4 inch into my face and I hate it. I do not use it. Maple makes a extra capacity magazine for P35s/Bullsharks that protrudes on the left. I have one (so far) and love it. I am talking to Bigair (do I have the name right? the guy in Kansas) about making one. Doesn't hurt to ask.

I prefer scopes with the illumination switch on the top at the rear. When it is near the parallax knob it is hard to reach and about impossible to see without taking the stock off my shoulder. I also would rather have the parallax be on the front of the scope where you rotate the whole end of the scope. Much easier to do for me.

The P35 safety is a feel thing for me. A tiny little button above the trigger. I'm used to it but it is not lefty friendly.

I do not like the very thin barrel of FX airguns but I refuse to buy any airgun that sticks a huge magazine right into my face. Not happening. SPA guns seem to be in general at least pretty lefty friendly. The big Zellos magazine is right in the middle of the gun. Protrudes the same on both sides I think.

My arms are so long and my hands are so big nothing fits me and I make my own stocks. But I can't fix a magazine in my face.

There is more available than you may think and definitely much less than you may hope. I always appreciate a true lefty gun or at least an ambidextrous one. Some, as has been pointed out, cannot be used at all, like the Maverick and the Leopard, which have a magazine sticking out of the right side of the cheek rest.
Please let us know if there is anything you're looking for. There is a great and dedicated group of similarly afflicted members here!

Thank You !!!
That's good to know about the Maverick. That was actually one of my short list "Next" guns. I'm very new. I got the A.V. Avenger Bullpup (2) 25 caliber as my first. I love it. From the bench there are no issues really. Otherwise, I guess the safety is awkward but otherwise it's pretty good. (The reg did fail after 3mo but they swapped it with a 2 week turnaround).
I've been looking. I'm thinking something 30 cal (my main target these days is raccoons at 30-40 yards), but the modular rifles are really attractive. I'm still at a point where I'm learning (I guess we always are) and need to be cautious financially. This Avenger for the money is great but it really gave me a taste of what's out there and now I'm trying to put it all together.
I didn't think the right side lever is a deal breaker, it's something I'm just used to, but things like the magazine you mentioned are a real bummer.
Thanks so much

Don't be so fast to move on from the Avenger. If you get a good one, they can be outstanding.

Thanks for this... Like I mentioned, I absolutely love this rifle. When the reg failed AV was incredible with tech support and then only 2 weeks turnaround. They did offer to send the reg but the gun was so new I preferred they do it.
I'm not really so much wanting to move on from this Bullpup but it's like an entire new world opened up when I fired the first shot.
I noticed one comment is the link saying it quickly outgrew the UTG scope. I put a CVLife 2-10x32 AO. It was about $100. It came with a cantilever mount which fits nicely. What are some things to look for when thinking I'm "Outgrowing" my optic?
Back on topic, forgot to mention scopes. Similar to the level, on the bench I feel I prefer the turrets in their position. My current only has A.O. not side so I'm thinking that would be a problem. Also, the illumination dial, although another set and forget for the outing.
