Hello from Iowa
My name is Eric and I am in Iowa City.
I am originally from Maryland. I shot Field target at the DIFTA league in Damascus Maryland until 2016 when I moved to Iowa.
It is a beautiful place but there is ZERO Airgun activity much less Field Target competition.
So I am trying to get people together in eastern Iowa

Cedar Rapids/ Iowa City area has three gun clubs and a free shooting range area.

Plus farms and wooded areas all around.
I have everything laid out to build a club except people.

There cannot be a shooting competition without a club to organize it. And you have to have liability insurance to protect the land owner if we can find a private area to shoot.

There are a million details and a TON of work to do not to mention money.

But that is the only way Field Target will come to Iowa.

So let’s start club. We need at least half a dozen people that want to get together and hash it out.

Great idea , hope you have good results .
A great many people drive several hours to shoot FT . i think there are FT clubs in western St Louis area and Missouri ? Okla city but that is 9 hours from you .

Hello and thank you.
I have driven it Illinois to shoot. It is tough to drive for hours and compete then drive back. Plus if a club can secure a sight then there is practice days every weekend and it goes from there. If it only 1/2 hour drive

I've been going to that range off and on for decades but more Off lately. If you decide to go there make sure you have a few others with you that can keep an eye on what's happening around you as you shoot. Several of us are up in the CR area and also trying to find people looking to FT or bench but at a different range. BTW welcome to the forum. Lot's of really good folks here and much information to try and absorb as this forum is chuck full of knowledgeable people.

Hmm. Is it a Crime problem at that range?

Not a crime problem I have seen . Stupidly and I don’t mean a little . I had forgotten about that. Definitely need to see what other people are doing . I think at the short end it is OK. People are at the long area and walking down range and shooting when people are down range.

I have never enjoyed Shooting Ranges. I was spoiled in Nevada. I could drive one block and be in wide open spaces.
