Heavier .25 slugs and slower velocitys with a helliboard

Hi all .

I have been using various weight slugs in my .25 high power redwolf thats fitted with a helliboard and been getting great results using a 34g slug at 940fps and very accurate results in windy conditions using 38 g slugs at 859fps at 100 yards and now ive just got my hands on some 44g wildman slugs but am only able to push them out a max of 800fps even when i have increased the voltage on the helliboard.

As of yet i havent managed to get out and test these at any range but my question is am i wasting my time due to the slower velocity ?or has anyone on here had good results using heavy slugs at lower velocitys ?

Maybe the heavier slugs are tighter (or looser) fitting? Have you compared actual diameters by measuring them with the lighter ones? If they are too tight I would run them through a Sizer and give them another go. Can't do anything if too loose though.

You have a very good point about the diameters and i will compare them against the lighter slugs.

I havent noticed much of a difference in tightness when loading them into the breech of the Redwolf but i will only be able to tell properly by measuring them ...maybe a bit of pellet lube might help things to ?

44 grains at .25 caliber is a whole lot of mass to get moving up to faster speeds on just 3300 psi.

I would think for slugs and there greater bore drag staying in the 28-32 grain range would far easier to make speed and be fairly air use tolerable.

How old is your RW again? are you sure it has the hardened hammer fitted?

Its a year old , and was fitted with the gcu2 factory board, the polygon barrel and i have already checked with daystate that a hardened hammer was fitted to this generation of Redwolfs , as i am aware the older Redwolf had a softer hammer that could become damaged if the helliboard was ran to high.

Yeah i gathered that , i have heared that some early redwolfs and pulsars have experienced hammers becoming damaged due to the system running it to hard or so i have heared

Well actually indirectly it does, the non hardened hammer when overdriven with the voltage a HELIBOARD can deliver will peen, metal fragments from the hammer then get into the board and short it out!

I highly highly doubt that .... SMT boards don't have open end wire architecture.



But anyways ... not an argument worth having being your are missing the statements point ... of hard or soft making no difference in power.

what is your voltage setting on the slugs?

90 volts if i remember correctly , since this was posted i have been using lighter slugs ( 33g zans) and getting decent groups at 900 fps.

26 grain .nsa 25 cal slugs shoot sub moa out to 200 yards in the Vulcan 25 @ 830 fps. 


21 grain H&N shoot just as well at 840 in the Uragun .22
