Hawke sidewinder 30mm sf 8-32-56 with pro rectical

I am pretty new to scopes and have a few questions please. I have the above scope on wolverine 2 hp .22 rifle.

With the side focus wheel in place, should the clarity of scope and focus pretty much match the indications on wheel and pointer?
Or do most of you disregard with lines and make your own? Does the focus of wheel and slight change effect impact point of pellet?

I would like to use my focus almost like a range finder but the true focus to so far off from the yardage marked on wheel.

You might look at the Airmax line too. My wife loves her 12X for field target. Once you move the focusing ring to get a clear reticle the printed numbers will be wrong. The best thing I have found to use to focus Is a rough textured surface like a retaining wall block at Lowe's . The corner was cracked off and I got it for 50 cents. One yard increments out to 35 yards then 2.5 or 5 yard increments on a tape (paper or tape) stuck on the side wheel (I use stick glue and scotch tape). Hawke makes an optional 6 inch wheel that will make it easier to mark at longer distances. It is a tedious process but worth the effort. Chairgun will help with holdovers. I use Scopeknob to make a printed turret and side wheel tape. Contact me at [email protected] and i can send you pictures of the finished product.
