Hawke scope advise

I have decided to buy a HAWKE scope, for my Weihrauch HW 97k .There are several different models, I am using it for field target shooting. Any advise would be appreciated.

Any IMO appreciated also.

I’ve had several Hawke scopes, all good, but the frontier line is well worth the extra money.

I use a Sidewinder 8-32x56 on my RAW for field target, reticle is very nice for ranging, hash marks are not too far apart. The glass is exceptionally clear for me. You want second focal plane, don’t want a lot of gap between hash marks. I’ve had good luck with them. Rick

I too have a Sidewinder SFP but it's 6x24x56. On a pcp so I can't attest to how they hold up on a springer. My favorite scope!

I also have two of the Sidewinder SFP but it's 6x24x56 absolutely love them favorite scope, my original one I did put a my grandsons 125th .25 he shot it all summer then put it over to his dreamlite.25 still holds zero perfectly, also hawkes warranty is awesome doesn’t even matter if your 1st or 10th owner

I put an Airmax 4x12x40 on my Diana 52 and it did not last long. Put the Bullseye mount on and replaced the scope with an Airmax 4x12x50 and it did just fine.

I have a Hawke Sidewinder 8-32x56 IR I bought new when I first started shooting field target back in 2018. The optics are very clear and sharp. Light transmission is good and the IR is excellent. My only complaint is that when ranging targets out past much over 45 yards or so it can be a little soft as to the exact range. I'm curious to see how it holds up on a springer also.

I recently purchased a couple Hawke Frontiers and they appear to have the nicest glass I have ever seen in ANY HIGH DOLLAR Chinese scope to date while on the ongoing quest to find glass that rivals the Alpha6 (My first initial look through impression was HOLY CRAP they musta copied the Alpha6 glass it's so Leupold-like white bright and clear without the typical yellowing that's common with Chinese glass). I prefer the clicks on the Athlon Midas TAC though.

I would personally not mount a Hawke on spring gun except for a Diana model 60 or 75 specifically.

The Sidewinder 6 x 24 - 56 is one of my favorite scopes and have never been as issue on my springers. I have both SFP and FFP

I bet you can see the glass difference between the SFP and FFP SW30s assuming the SFP is an older model. Lack of the yellow-ish glass I assume. Illumination is superior as well.

What class are you going to be shooting? Hunter class is limited to 16 power. The other classes let you use more powerful scopes. Make sure you get a scope that focuses down to 10 yards on max. power. The Hawke Airmax scopes work pretty well as well as the Sidewinders.

The newer Hawke scopes are better,the higher price Hawks have better glass and worth having.I have a Hawke 3-9x40 Airmax on my HW97K with BKL one pc mount..also a 4-16x50 Airmax mounted on ha ha,Dang I forgot...oh yea not mounted it yet....

Someone mentioned the Bullseye mount and I swear by it. I had a Hawke Vantage 3-9x40 AO scope on top of my RWS 460 Magnum springer and it wasn't long before it wouldn't hold zero - that 460 hammered it. So, I bought a Bullseye scope mount and replaced the broken Hawke scope with another and now, many shots later, it is doing fine - I attribute the good health of the new scope to the Bullseye mount.

I installed a Hawke Airmax compact 4-16 x 44 mm IR, SF, scope on my HW85L. This is an excellent combo that is accurate and fun to shoot.

I’d stick with tried and true springer rated scopes. 
people have been successfully using:


UTG / Centerpoint ( the old small 3x9x32) and 3-12 Swat are best.

leupold EFR 3x9 ( hate the reticle) and hard to turn ao and power

Weaver v series and Grand Slam ( excellent)

bushnell, legend, trophy and of course all the Elite series. 

4,200 elite is stunning by almost any standard

I’m sure others can chime in but I’ve used all those on springers for years.
