Hawke Mil Dot Reticle Question

I currently have a Hawke Airmax 4-12x50 mounted on my Gamo Urban. My Urban is primarily used for squirrel hunting and the AMX reticle is easy to lose in trees. I plan to downsize a little bit and was thinking about switching to a Vantage 2-7x32 or 3-9-40 (Mil Dot Reticle, AO) . Thing is, I can't tell just how fine the reticles are from the pictures and videos I've seen. I'm hoping Hawke's Mild Dot Reticle is a little bit thicker than their AMX and more conducive to picking of squirrels in oak trees. If not, then I suppose I could always go with an illuminate reticle.

Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm in the opposite shoes from you. I have a couple of Hawke Vantage scopes. I have a 4x32 AO and a 2-7x32 AO. I have used the 4x32 a lot for target shooting and squirrel hunting. I love the Mil Dot reticle in them. It is NOT too fine, you won't lose it in the trees and I don't find it too be too thick either. I just got the 2-7x32 Hawke Vantage and have not mounted it yet. But, it's the same reticle. Now, I am thinking of buying an Airmax and am concerned about the AMX reticle. You may have just answered my question, but I haven't actually looked through one. Hopefully this helps with your question.
